I always recommend getting second hand ones, then getting them altered to fit. Can get a lot better quality for the money and get a great fit.
If you want them for safety not fashion, you need a good fit; a bad fit can actually cause injuries!
Buying blindly on the internet is quite likely to get you a poor fit.

I recently got a Spyke 1 peace new for £279 from George White Honda. They are simply the best value leathers available by far! I tried on a Frank Thomas set which was £230 more then the Spike and were a less comfortable.

Erm, as far as I know, while there isn't any conclusive research so far I believe, that it's the opposite. A race hump is more likely to break your spine.
If you're a moto-gp rider however, it may save you 0.05 of a second a lap, which added up to a few other bits could be the difference between a qualifying place or two, then possibly winning or not winning a race.

I got some 1 piece Richa race leathers complete with full armour, race hump etc for £220 off ebay brand new from a shop in the sale earlier this year. I found them in a couple of well known shops for over 500 quid. Took me ages to find them though.

Why is a race hump more likely to break your spine?? My leathers have the hump and back protector built in. The race hump, to me, feels like extra protection.

I was under the impression the racehumps were in place in one peices so there is usually enough space for a backprotector to sit inside there.

A race hump is purely aerodynamic i believe. It is more likely to break your spine rather than save it because it is putting all the force into a small area, rather than spreading it over your whole back (bare in mind that the hump is probably only around 10 inches long, well mine is on my nessy leathers)

I wear nothing less than my 1 pc arlen ness leathers, A* track armour (like a waste coat with back protector, chest padding etc), gloves, boots and obviously lid. Didn't really want a race hump but it was on the leathers that fit me really well, if i had a choice i'd have it removed to save my back if the worse comes to the worst.

Race humps do not save lives, the best they do is raise your head from the ground to stop it bouncing on the tarmac but instead leave it open and unsupported to much greater degrees of flexion and hyper extension, combined with the way they interfere with natural c spine shape means that for any potential back injury they cause a lot of problems and issues that may not be fixable.

A race hump only goes down about half the length of your spine, if that, so is no use for a back protector. Currently they are putting a drinks bottle in there, or datalogging for the top boys.

Us punters on the street just get foam in there usually.

As said though, they cause more injuries than they solve.

No.

I had a set (two piece) because they were cheap.

The quality is poor - leather is thin and not very supple - almost 'dry' if you see what I mean. Had a slow speed spill in them, which ruined the stiching on the leg, causing a 6" gap to open up.

They are pretty restrictive on movement too, and the shins are made of very thick and stiff leather, which is difficult to put inside one's boots, but not wide enough to go over the top.

As a final nail in the coffin, the lining is not very soft.

£150 is very very cheap for leathers, and the quality reflects this.

EDIT - Their gloves are fine though!

..wheareas i like my 2 piece gp leathers. mine are as thick as i'd like not got the vernier on them Smile but 1.3 feels about right. Mine are supple. The lining is wispy thin. i also prefer that ... i keep it in all year, adding layers in winter.
Not crashed in them but i know of another person who had a moderate spill and his were just scuffed. Maybe the QCs need sacking.
I'd suggest contacting them...yer never know Wink
