Crank Seals. Do these separate the Gearbox oil from the Crank its self?

I have noticed my TZR engine is using Gearbox oil, It's also running very oily/rich even though its got a smaller than standard Main Jet, AND a K&N Filter.
So I can only assume its burning Gearbox oil?

Been told I need to change the crank seals?

Also been told Its not even an engine out job, Let alone splitting the cases.
If thats the case, Then I will do it asap.


Any ideas?

Hi

Well, the end of the crank pokes into the clutch housing, and this sits in oil. The crank seal on that side seperates the clutch housing from the actual crank housing.

Most 2 strokes they can be changed without splitting the engine.

Cheers Keith. Just the answer I was looking for.


Just got a R/H Crank seal off ebay so will get it changed over as soon as it arrives. Then I can start setting up the carb and getting the thing running right.


Another quickie. Standard carb is a Mikuni VM26.

I've been offered a Delorto PHBH28 (2t carb) for £30 inc delivery.
Is it a worthwhile upgrade for the TZR125 engine.

Honestly don't know. Quite likely yes, but you will be starting from scratch with the jetting which might well counteract that.

To be honest the jetting is waaay out anyway. So starting over is no loss nor gain.
I've been told they are better carbs to set up.
Just wondered if it will defo work and is worth £30.
