I'm thinking of getting one of these next may/june, and was wondering if anyone has heard much about them. I know that they do 30mph restricted (as most 50cc bikes/mopeds do), but what about derestricted? Do they have a kickstart aswell as an electric start? I also want to know how they compare to Derbi Sendas and GPRs and Aprilia RS50s, in terms of appearance, reliabilty, performance and storage (ie. is there under-seat helmet storage?)

One last thing: out of the four bikes mentioned, which one would you buy and why? And would you get it new or used?

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps out.

Um I’m pretty sure no one on here has ever ridden a TZR50.

And out of them all I’d choose none, I’d wait and get something bigger. If I was forced to get one though I’d buy the cheapest dog of a bike I could because as a learner I’d be bound to crash it at least once.

TBH I wouldn't buy any new 50, but especially not a faired one. Its quite likely that you will drop it and cause mucho damage thats expensive to repair.

I suggest that you buy an old crosser instead - it won't cost as much to buy and insure. They have the bonus of no fairing to break when you drop em as well.

Save your cash, pass your test @ 17 then buy a 250/400.

Is there any particular model of crosser that you'd reccomend? And please don't tell me not to get a 50 and to wait till I'm 17 to get a bike. I've decided I'm getting a 50 when I'm 16 and that's final.

an old DT50 or TS50 or something similar will cost about 300-400 quid and not lose any value in a year. They can still be derestricted to give about 45 (genuine) mph.

If you’re going to get one get a cheap DT50 or something.

I might consider getting a used DT50, but I'm going to have this bike for around 18 months, so I don't want one that looks like total crap. If I want to get one that's 2-3 years old and in good condition, it looks like I'll have to pay about £1,400. If it's going to cost that much, I may as well just pay a little bit more and get a used Senda.

Buy a 50 at 16, but dont spend too much cos at 17 you WILL want to take your test and ride something bigger!!....

18 months? are you on some kind of funny time?

At 17 you get a 125. Any 125 is better than any 50.

Go for a 15 or 20 year old DT. Even if you blow the engine up and get it rebuilt at a garage your only spending 200 quid on it.

Get an MT5, they're way better than DT's or TS's and you can put an H100 engine straight in they fit on the mountings on the frame, A mate of mine has one with a 65 kit, lots of power loads of fun does bout 60.

https://www.myhondamt5.cjb.net

A good website to learn about them.

Thanks for the help but I've pretty much decided on a used Senda now. They're one of the fastest 50s around (or so I'm told), and they're apparently very easy to ride.

Senda's are Bullshit, most of them have been blown up and their like a 51 reg. And who the fuck is Derbi????????. Get a Senda if you want an unreliable shit heap. Get an MT5 if you want a good fun bike with a reliable name and easy to get parts.

I did my CBT on an MT5. Most arse bike anyone could ever want to ride.

However a friend of mine has a derbi senda, which I rode around a car park a bit. A bit faster, lighter, looks better, and stoppies very nicely. I'm not a stoppie kind of person.

Oh and it takes decent rubber as well - 130/70 17 back and 100/90 17 front as I remember.

Keeping your 50 for 18 months is totally acceptable, i have had mine for 16 months (exactly 16) and it does not look as though i am getting a different bike until september Crying or Very sad

If you want to keep it for a while don't worry about what other people say and just do it, also get the senda it is very nice and won't blow up if treated correctly.
