help with Vista please

first I don't use vista but my wife does. She has just tried to move some photos from her laptop running vista to an external drive and the whole folder has vanished. Any one got any ideas how we can recover it as its all the family photos from birthdays and all sorts. The wife is pretty good with computers where as I just get frustrated and shout a lot so any help would be appreciated

so you CUT the folder before PASTING it to another drive?

when you view the properties of the external drive does it say that any space is being taken up on it?

do you know any of the exact filenames of the individual photos? if so you could run a search, if it comes up with anything then you click open folder, just in case it has dropped them anywhere bizzare?

if you have the same explorer window still open you can click "edit" and "undo move" (use alt to get menu bar up)

apparently she copied one file to the drive went back to delete that file and the whole folder disappeared wasn't even in the recycle bin but she now informs me she has down loaded a program and has found the folder just has to get them back so she can burn them to bloody disk! she now informs me she is recovering 38000 files!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks for the quick response Thumbs Up

if you haven't written anything to the original drive since, use a program like badcopy pro to recover the delete files.

also a number of other programs you can use to recover "deleted" files. try googling ultimate boot cd and see what programs are on there

And for the future, maybe a bit of automatic online backup? At https://mozy.com/ you can get 2GB for free, so you could at least back up a folder of your most important stuff if you don't want to pay for more backup space.
