It's just natural for parents to protect their children from danger.

I don't want my son (now 16 months old) to ride a motorbike when he is older. I'll try to make him drive cars straight away.. I just don't think that bikes are safe for him lol.

It's just a parent thing.. I DO ride a motorbike myself and I know the risk and don't do stupid things.. I used to do skydiving and paragliding and other crazy stuff when I was younger and was doing stupid things (my parents were thrilled). I know I won't stop him if he really want to do it, but at least I'll say NO Wink

I already noticed he likes adrenaline in his veins like his daddy - swings at young age the higher the more laughter. I just hope his bones are as hard as mine.. never broke a bone and carshed absolutely everything Wink

Best argument back to the parents is this (granted it works better for girls! Laughing )

Horse riders are 20 times more likely to be injured than a motorcyclist. Can I have a horse then? Mr. Green

My dad doesn't approve, though his dad used to bike a lot. My mom is more supportive - she's always liked fast stuff (she used to have a Pontiac Firebird!) but she sees bikes as a bit dangerous.

Thing is, you're your own person and so they can't really stop you from doing it - just don't go asking for gloves/luggage/lids as birthday presents.

My mum hates me on a bike. When I asked 2 years ago for a new rear tyre for my birthday & Christmas present, I got a sander & an electric drill Shocked Think she has finally come to terms with the fact now as when I asked for a new front tyre last year I actually got £80 towards one. It has only taken 26 years, but she has finally got the idea that I won't give up biking.

My dad got me into bikes after showing me a picture of an rs125 in a magazine and said why I didn't get one. After my mum found out he had said that, he got a right verbal going over and ever since, he's been dead set against them. I know, secretly, that he would love have had one.

However, a lifetime spent writing risk assessments means he always looks at things from a safety's point of view. Laughing Sad

Going pillion on my Dad's bike when I was a nipper and the many races we went to were contributing factors to me getting two wheels!!!

Laughing

I asked for tyres for my birthday and got them. The next door but one neighbour worries more about me going out on my bike than my parents.

I came into biking by co-incidence.

my mum actually suggested the idea to get the ybr125. Dont think she expected me to love it as much as i did, and choose bikes over cars.

Now when i go to/from uni she is always telling me to be careful and not do anything silly like racing cars.

only thing that overtook me the other day was a new transit van that must have been doing 130mph on the m69. i couldnt keep up. Sad
