Bidding for an item for my bike. Did the usual putting my max in of £25. Bid starts at 99p but then Mr Bidder 2 starts to play

Skudd £24.00 17-jul-09 15:42:45 BST
Bidder 2 £23.00 17-Jul-09 15:42:40 BST
Bidder 2 £20.00 17-Jul-09 15:42:13 BST
Bidder 2 £12.00 17-Jul-09 15:24:50 BST
Bidder 2 £10.00 17-Jul-09 10:52:37 BST
Bidder 2 £5.00 17-Jul-09 10:52:28 BST
Bidder 2 £3.00 17-Jul-09 10:51:57 BST
Bidder 2 £2.00 17-Jul-09 10:51:48 BST
Bidder 2 £1.50 17-Jul-09 10:51:24 BST
Starting Price £0.99 16-Jul-09 20:00:00 BST

All he has done is bid the price up as if he is the seller just wanting to up the price, looked at other things he has bid on and he seems to do the same on random makes of bikes. The way he has bid, to me, looks like he is checking out how much I have put in as a max without going over himself.

Use a sniping website or manually snipe the auction to avoid this kind of thing happening.

Sniping is entering your highest bid within the dying seconds of the auction. It avoids people either shill bidding (bidding on their own stuff), or trying to beat a bid you've already entered.

There are websites that will place the bid for you, but I prefer to do it myself whenever possible.

I hate people who snipe bid when i'm selling stuff,i get 20 watchers and no bids till the last minute, that's why when someone bids straight away on my stuff,i sometimes end the auction and sell it to them just to piss these people off.

The only time I bid outside of the last 10 seconds is when I don't really want the item I'm bidding on..... bidding at any time is just increasing the potential sale price...

You have to have a good reason to cancel a bid I think and ebay have to review that. I do last min bids to Embarassed But poeple have been swooping on things I really want at the last mins so I have bad payback for my swooping Crying or Very sad

If it's something I want like a rare record, I tend to have one window on the confirm bid page, with a ridiculous max bid in whilst refreshing the listing page on another window.

That way you can press confirm within 5-10 seconds of the auction and win it, peeing off the collectors who wanna oggle the rare record in a glass cabinet and not play it.

It's not completely fool-proof though because the current bidder's current bid might not be their maximum bid. Sniping software has no way of knowing the maximum bid and if you leave it too late the software gets only one shot.

It does look like the guy has been doing the " Shilling" thing. Just the way he has bid makes it look iffy.
