Sad Looks like a worker has gone overboard on the Brent Delta in the North Sea. They have now recovered the body going by reports. Poor guy wouldnt have stood a chance in the water.

Having worked on a few rigs up there I know some of the guys off of the Delta. Hope they find out what caused the accident.
That has been an issue on the rigs for some time now about working on your own, but nothing has ever really been done to address the problem. Although it look like the alarm was raised pretty quickly, which is surprising considering there can be up to 140 people on there at any one time, so to realise that somebody is missing during working hours is quite difficult.

I can't imagine anything worse than falling overboard in an area like that. As you've said, absolutely no chance of survival. Neutral

I would have thought that they would have some sort of tagging devices that would raise an alarm if a sensor(person wearing it) goes out of range? Sounds a bit worrying to be honest....?

Shocked Works for the same company as me.

Unusual for a worker to fall into the water, what with compulsary fall arrest equiptment with any working at height & overboard watchmen & boat cover for any work requiring any body part to go out over the water.

Certainly strange his abscence was noticed at 11.30, unless he was a stickler for his inbetweenie Confused

Yeah I was thinking that any "overside" work is usually Scaffs of Dope's on ropes, they'll usually have, like you say, fall arrestor equipment, standby boat and watchman. It's very difficult to fall overboard. Even if the wind was blowing a proper hoolie then you are usually required to stay in the accommodation or avoid that part of the platform.
If your working yourself you might not see anybody for 10hrs, still crazy how quickly the alarm was raised unless he was seen going overboard, but the reports dont seem to suggest that Confused
