Me and the misses have decided we need a holiday pronto.

Something between 27th of this month and early august for 7 days in Sharm El Sheikh, probably all inclusive with a maximum budget of around 500 a head (not including spending money).

I have tried all the usual package holiday places.

Expedia is expensive now,
not much on lastminute.com
icelolly.co.uk might have some possibilities as does teletextholidays.co.uk.

Was wondering which BCF'ers had been to Sharm and could they reccommend a tour operator/hotel/excursion.

Looking to do at least, Quad biking, Aqua Parks, Diving (get certified hopefully never done it before), Snorkeling and mostly veging out.

Any advice for someone who seeks the sun?

A friend of mine was there last year and I asked her for you she stayed at Babbawai hotel and it was cheap enough. Think it was 3 stars but she was impressed by it. It has a pool. Ok sorry if that was useless she cant remember the price but its a good hotel.

I've been to Sharm about four times, mostly diving. It's got a lot more touristy than when I first went about 8 years ago and the dives sites are a lot more crowded. It's fairly cheap though with great weather (it hardly ever rains). If you're going to learn to dive, you can get some good package deals (including hotels) here:
https://www.explorers.co.uk/

I've used them a couple of times and they're good.

Absolutely great destination, went with family twice last year.

try on the beach, via internet, very good for prices.

think it cost around £1500 4*hotel all incl. for 3 adults and 1 child. But prices have gone up on air fares since then, still an absolutely cracking holiday.

Sod Sharm, Hurgahda is where it's at, take it from me, lived out there for 6 months working as a kite-surfing instructor. Don't know how old you are or WHAT 500 quid would get you but look up the Magawish hotel and if that's too low end go for the Sofitel. Magawish has a dive centre, very much suspect Sofitel does as well. Camel rides and quads etc are also on there as well. Nightlife is off the chain, Ministry of Sound nightclub and HedKandi venue, first in the world. Thumbs Up

I went to El Gouna last year, just up the road from Hurgahda. Cost was about £600 per person all inclusive 4 star hotel. Hotel was really nice, clean and good food. Quiet around the hotel but loads to do if you travel out. Snorkeling was about 25 euros for a full day trip, visiting 3 sites. Quads were between £15 and £20. I think we booked through Thomas Cook?

I have never been to Egypt, so can't offer any advice on that, but if you are planning on qualifying as a diver I would recommend that you do a referral course with your local PADI school. You do all your academic and pool stuff here, and just arrange to do your qualifying dives whilst on holiday. It saves you from spending your valuable holiday time in the classroom.

El Gouna is a sensational spot for kiting, butter flat water and high winds but it's pretty bare for general tourisim I would of said. Hurgahda has got a lot going on but a day trip to El Gouna would be worth it, can get a taxi up there it's that close. Very picturesque little town. Bastard Ichy, really made me miss El Gouna and Hurgahda now!

Totally agree, It's why we went there! I'd go back in a shot. A short taxi ride gets you anywhere. I'm rubbish at taking photo's.

If you do go then don't go to the Sharm El Sheikh holiday resort in Sharm, we went couple years ago and nearly every westerner in the hotel was sick. The place was filthy, they used local water to mix in with the drinks fountains, and prepared the food in it. the pool had scum all the way round and the water bottle fountains you used to get black floating bits in your drink as they never cleaned the filters or anything. Food was always cold, greasy and never cooked through.
You will need lots of imodium for that place trust me.

Better to spend a litle extra and make sure you go to a good hotel even if it breaks the budget a small bit.

Took us over a month to get our insides back on track.
