Right. We depart at 6 a.m tomorrow morning.

Started off as me buying a C70 for a giggle. I then suggested we should all buy them and have a road trip in the summer. I got heckled. It actually is happening though. Razz

We're riding down to Newquay for a week on the piss, pretty much. It's about 220ish miles (each way), and there are 6 of us on C90s or thereabouts.

The route is starting off the other side of Southampton, over to hop on the Sandbanks ferry, A351 to Wareham, followed by the A352/353 to Weymouth. Hop onto the B3157 to Bridport then a brief stint on the A35 then A3052 to Exeter.

We're then heading over Dartmoor, B3212 and B3357 to Tavistock, the Liskeard, Bodmin, Wadebridge, Padstow and Porthcothan! Laughing

Packed a few spares. Spare lever, fuses, oil, cable ties, tape, nuts and bolts, spanners, puncture repair kit etc. All the bike seem okay, apart from one which is a bit smokey. Hence the oil.

All the bikes have been fitted with £30 pit bike exhausts, so you'll hear us coming. Apart from mine, which has a Monkey bike exhaust, which is low level. This doesn't fair too well offroad, it's a little bit dented now. Mr. Green

Right, the bikes.

Bike 1 - 1983 C70c.

This is mine. Bought it as a standard 70 non runner for £187. Got it running but then decided to play with the engine a bit. Bored it out to 88 and then changed the crank making it 107cc or thereabouts. Blew it up in 47 miles. Embarassed

Bought a 110 Lifan engine, done 1000 miles on it so far and all seems well.

https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/dsc00646_190.jpg

Bike 2 - 1984 C90e

This is my brothers. Found it on ebay with 12 months T&T and a recent 110 lump already in it. Was a bit of a bargain so I bought it straightaway and rode it 110 miles home. This ones the quickest of the bunch. Not sure why. Pit bike exhaust and she's ready to roll.

https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/dsc00647_190.jpg

Bike 3

Bought for £200. I've had to put a new camchain and a 2nd hand piston and bore in this one. Still a bit tired engine wise but it seems to go ok. It's called the Turkish delight, hence the seat cover.

https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/dsc00653.jpg

Bike 4

Bought on ebay as a non runner. Had been seized up, but had a new piston. Got it running and replaced the camchain too. Bought a new 110 lump which is now fitted. Meeting some people down there who are taking the original 90 engine in their car, if Bike 3 should die.

https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/dsc00651.jpg

Bike 5 is the nicest of the lot. Standard 90 with a pit bike exhaust.

https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/dsc00654_263.jpg

Bike 6

I don't have an up to date photo of this one, but it has the same hi level pipe as the rest now. This is a C50LA as standard but has a 4 speed manual engine in it. Engine states its a 50 but for some reason it'll happily cruise along at 40+. We don't know why!

https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/pic_1215.jpg

So that's it. Don't know what will go wrong but it should be a laugh. I'm all packed up now, the bike is carrying quite alot of weight. Will update this when I get back, probably around 10/12 days time.

I've done some C90 touring in the past - it's extremely satisfying, especially when you get somewhere pretty with some little backroads to really thrash them down. A few of us went to the Dragon Rally on 90s in Feb, it was ace.

Good luck, should be good fun and having a support vehicle will help. Saw a couple the other week near Leominster, the way they were loaded up and the way they were being ridden they looked like they were on tour - on of them had panniers over the front wheel.

I owned a C90 once. It was okay, went about 55mph top end... and even after a truck rear ended me, once fixed up I sold it for £20 more than I paid. Thumbs Up

Rear carrier of Bike 5 looks nice. We don't have carriers like this here.

Best do a write up then, as I've been back a while - before I forget it all.

Right then, we all met up in Botley at 5.45am for departure at 6.00am. Gareth was late and we didn't leave until about quarter past. Laughing

Here are the bikes all loaded up. No, they don't handle. Yes, they do bounce.

https://img53.imageshack.us/img53/7974/dsc00661qyu.jpg

https://img399.imageshack.us/img399/8172/dsc00662.jpg

https://img38.imageshack.us/img38/9324/dsc00663mbl.jpg

https://img24.imageshack.us/img24/8454/dsc00664c.jpg

https://img188.imageshack.us/img188/9195/dsc00665w.jpg

https://img73.imageshack.us/img73/9012/dsc00666.jpg

We managed a whole 27 miles before bike 5's exhaust made a bid for freedom. He was at the back of the pack and on the most loaded bike and shot past everyone making a hell of a noise. Luckily I packed spare nuts and a exhaust gasket so it was easily remedied.

My luggage fell off just before the sandbanks ferry.

https://img380.imageshack.us/img380/8427/ferry.jpg

Strapped it back on and paid the whole 80p fare to travel accross it. We did this mainly for the nicer roads than any distance. Quick wheelie off the ferry and onto a really nice road towards Corfe Castle. Peg scrape and suspension bounce galore.

Then we headed towards Dartmoor. Well, to the pub.

https://img382.imageshack.us/img382/1935/dartmoor2.jpg

Weather not fantastic but the roads were brilliant. Weather not good at all actually, from this point onwards, but the bikes were behaving fine. Might add here that in the near 600 miles covered my Lifan engine burnt no oil. This included a few wheelies and downhill flat out runs.

Eventually got to the campsite after a few stops. Wish I took more photos. Sad

Promptly pulled into the campsite and fell off. Looked very gracefull too, so I'm told.

https://img509.imageshack.us/img509/4149/62081350805071835022771.jpg

Wet grass and back brake = lots of fun. Cool

Did a spot of rubber dingy towing around the campsite too.

https://img73.imageshack.us/img73/2945/towing.jpg

And then all was well until the 2nd to last day (we were leaving the next morning) When Henry flipped his 90 and holed the RHS engine case.

https://img24.imageshack.us/img24/1539/dsc00682b.jpg

Bugger. We were going on a fishing trip so he had to go on the back of another. Henry isn't a light fella...

https://img35.imageshack.us/img35/4780/dsc00684r.jpg

So we did our fishing and then came back to camp where I set about taking it to bits.

https://img248.imageshack.us/img248/1557/dsc00686r.jpg

https://img181.imageshack.us/img181/8849/dsc00687s.jpg

https://img35.imageshack.us/img35/6622/dsc00688w.jpg

https://img70.imageshack.us/img70/3533/dsc00689z.jpg

That's supposed to be clean. oops.

https://img70.imageshack.us/img70/6549/dsc00691.jpg

Good as new!

I repaired it with chemical metal ( case cleaned off with vodka
Laughing ) and topped it up with oil. This bike burns a bit of oil anyway, but still made it home on the A roads with the other 90. 7 hours. Flat out. The entire way. Amazing, really isn't it?

I will look through the over photos and try and find some more interesting ones - but that's about it! We made it homre without a hitch. Took about 12 hours to get there, but we stopped for a night in Exeter on the way back, because it was peeing it down so we got a B&B.

I like my cub. Thumbs Up

nice read , and good pics, i always find it really interesting when people tour on little machines , like that thread with the folks on 100cc 2 strokes to the med.

i have always liked the c90, how fast does it go with the 110cc engine in it, and would a 125cc cg125 fit in.

On a side note, wonder if anyone has toured on a monkey bike?
