 |
|
Well, I did Cadwell Park last Thursday and it is quite the tough track, its lack of space really tests you.
So, there were 4 of us who went up there;
1 X CBR600RR
2 X CBR1000 Fireblade (1 x 07 & 1 x 09)
1 X R1
Started the day on a disappointing note that my R1's Micron exhausts without the baffles in only hit 97DB, that was quite a shocker as they are immensely loud, but I suppose it's the pitch of it. What ever, I don't care......I reckon the DB reader was out as my last track day the exhausts hit 96DB with the baffles in...
So, moving on, the first session, after my great Brands Hatch track day I was a little over confident, and learned my lesson...The hard way. Started off alright, warmed the tyres up etc then started to poodle round learning the track, about 10 minutes into the first session I come up to Park off Park straight after a belting run off it, I was going way way too fast, heavy breaking, then panic breaking, realised I wasn't going to make the corner and let the break off, clutch in...TIME TO GO OFF ROAD. Luckily I kept it shiny side up and came to a stop and to clean the leathers off as they smelt for some reason. Then back on track and off I went to finish the session.
Moving onto some bad news, my friend on the 07 Repsol Fireblade, same place, same reason. overcooked the straight went off, but he was not so lucky. Binned it as he seemed to be getting towards the tyre wall a bit too quick. Smashing the right hand side of the lovely bike (pics below). damage was the foot peg snapped, break lever bent to high heaven, front fairing damaged, rear fairing damaged, right hand fairing damaged, plus a lot of added grass on the engine. That's his day over.

So second session, I eased off a bit after my mishap, kept saying to myself "Learn the track first". So I did. Had an OK session.
Back to more bad news. The 09 Fireblade, yeah that's right, a £10k bike. He was on his 3rd lap approaching Charlies, front tyre looses grip, goodbye beautiful Fireblade, tumbles and tumbles and tumbles....Damage.....Totalled!

Look at the rear sub frame...Ooops!

So, just me and my mate left, we carry on the day, I hated the morning sessions, then loved the afternoon sessions.
Last session got speaking to a really nice chap on an 06 R6 in the queue to go out, we go out first, warming the tyres up, then we start hooning, I could not keep up with him on the corners, but I was catching up on him on the straights, we hit traffic at the hairpin, then go past Barn and then R1 says bye bye to the R6, then it was my turn to lead. I never saw him after that. Assumed I pulled away...LOL..He pulls up after to chat and says he was behind me all the way, but I managed to just get enough speed on the two straights to deny him on any chance of an overtake on a bend. That was a great finish to the day, having a little race with an R6, I always wanted to compare the bikes. Now I know.
God I love track days. here are three pics of the day, one at Park, the other two on the Mountain.

Opps. We had one of those days a few weeks ago at Pembrey, 4 went up, 3 came off, 1 of them in Hosp with a blood clot and I was 1 of them (luckily not the one with the blood clot!)
I did Cadwell Thurs just gone (2nd July) awesome awesome day, didnt have the confidence after the highside less than two weeks earlier or the strength in my shoulder to muscle it around as fast as I wanted but still had an awesome day and I'm glad I did it. We even got a evening potter around for 20mins at £10 helped learn the track a little. I enjoyed Park Straight, hammering through the gears until you get over the blind crest then hard on the brakes, awesome fun.
Naturally I got lots of mountain shots too who doesnt?
We also got a bargain with the onsite photographer. He got 45 pics of me and I was gonna buy a CD since he got so many. He only got 20 of one mate and 27 of another so they didnt wanna buy a CD. So I haggled, making out I wouldnt buy a CD unless we came to a deal and ended up with all mine and my two mates pics on one CD for £30 Jackpot! ____________________ My bikes are at https://www.bikepics.com/members/dynamight/ |

Wow, nice one regards the CD, I am always wanting to ask to put them onto a USB stick, might try the angle of my CD drive does not work on my PC. See if I can get it dropped by £10.
Worth a shot...Get it? ____________________ My current bikes are - YZF-R1 & GS 500 E

bit of a bummer, thats why you need to invest in some track fairings dude, fairings cost £250 brand new or less 2nd hand.
Oe plasics will cost you nearly £2000 if they all get ruined and fairings are always resellable.
I wouldnt be disappointed in the exhaust passing the noise test. the last thing you need is someone telling you you can't ride coz your exhaust is too loud.
looking good though keep it up |

No it wasn't their first trackday, they've done many, happens sometimes I guess.
I had my baffles to hand so it was no big deal if they failed me. Might look into the race fairings. Would be gutted if I trashed it on mine. ____________________ My current bikes are - YZF-R1 & GS 500 E
