Here's a summary of my project thread from the MTRC forum.

I picked this up from kettering for £100
https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/photo-63.jpg

First task was mock it up next to the bike:

https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture370.jpg

After seeing it like that, I was beginning to have doubts as to whether it would ever look right on an MT Sad

So in a moment of madness, I broke out the sandpaper and a can of Krylon

Slowly but surely it grew on me

https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture397.jpg

https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture366.jpg

Mocked up with the rear rack:
https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture374.jpg

And the seat and floor covering sat in place (the seat is in brilliant condition, just needs a clean)
https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture373.jpg

From the pilots seat:
https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture376.jpg

The grab rail wouldn't come off at all, so I have masked up and sprayed with "Tough black" - a scratch proof satin black paint.

https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture402.jpg

https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture403.jpg

https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture404.jpg

mudguard sprayed:

https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture405.jpg

https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture406.jpg

Got this bracket welded on for me:

https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture411.jpg

https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture408.jpg

mocked up with the sidecar bracket:

https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture409.jpg

Quick coat of krylon:

https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture410.jpg

The front mount in place on the bike:

https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture413.jpg

And the sidecar bracket:

https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture415.jpg

I then spent the next hour turning small holes in my exhaust, into large holes in my exhaust (ran out of CO2 for the mig, so I'm on a little arc set with 2.5mm rods)

Tonights job was to crack on with the front top mount, this is essentially a piece of 3" flat bar, with 2 8mmx 49mm U bolts to clamp it onto the front down tube:

https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture426.jpg

Mocked up on the down tube:

https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture423.jpg

To demonstrate where the bracket is going:

https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture425.jpg

I will have to tidy it up, and affix it properly, but at least I've made a start.

I have managed to get a new bottle of pub CO2 for £17, then £10 for each refill, no contract on it.

https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture459.jpg

Steam pipe, nut welded in one end, forked on the other end (hanging up for spraying):

https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture461.jpg

https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture467.jpg

https://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/impreza_2007/Picture462.jpg

Fairly big update today:

Got the top rear bracket FINISHED

Got the front top bracket FINISHED

Got the front connecting bar FINISHED

1 more drill/weld job left for the rear connecting bar

I spent far too long as a child in a velorex sidecar. They're really light.

Just wait until it snows, 'cause then you can do donuts. Smile

The only thing I wouldn't like is the apparent lack of filtering...

Great job, it is a good way to tame an MT. Unless you are well over six foot you will have trouble holding it up, a third wheel sorts the problem. Who is the chick in the black top in the last picture?

It hasn't tamed it by any means of the word!

And being 6ft with a decent pair of legs, I have no trouble with either of my MTs solo (this one seems to have been lowered slightly on the front end).

The bird is my mates partner, my mate is a big mean bloke who talks like he could kill you any second.

It's called Krylon, dries in 15mins. I got it from this company: https://www.fire-support.co.uk/

Did the whole chair in one and a half cans.

On plastic it is brilliant, it flexes without cracking or peeling. I've had problems with it on my rear rack on the bike, but that's from stuff bouncing up and down on it and it's scratched off from the metal. Note: I didn't prepare ANY surfaces at all, just sprayed direct to a gloss coat.

Why not try a matt clear coat on it to try toughen it up a bit?

Are you in the Leeds area? I'd love to see this project now its done, might give me some inspiration for my army bike

I didn't even know you could get matt lacquers! I'll have a look into it.

I'm afraid I'm not around leeds, I'm near Preston. Be careful painting your XR tank, it's plastic isn't it? Petrol vapours can seep through the plastic and lift the paint.

Yes, aswell as the CCM604/640 (though not the suzuki powered model). There is no room in the 500 frame for an electric start.

Parts are pretty easy to get hold of, there are 3 or 4 suppliers who specialise in them.
