No pictures but kart engines tend to fail spectacularly well!

Friend's engine the conrod sheared, went straight through the cylinder wall, bent the crank, smashed all the gears and shattered the centrifugal clutch.

Expensive yet funny. Epic failure.

What's left of the piston and big end from engine #1

Valves from same next to two straight ones:

Got a spare engine, was apparently running but badly when put away. They guy had no need to lie to me, it was free to uplift.

Piston from engine #2 after being thrashed on the redline downhill with a full load of luggage for a considerable distance (not riding along at a steady 70mph as she first claimed)
Piston:

Could this be the reason the piston failed? Wink

On reflection, I don't think so. Although there may have been a hairline crack in addition to the chip. The whole chipped and modified bit broke away in one piece, it's sat on top of the crank. If you look at the piston, the crack has propogated from the gudgeon pin downwards.

Having seen the abuse she gave the #3 engine this summer, it may even have nipped. She heat-seized this one too but it freed off again this time with only a small 'smear' on the bore.

Brilliant work there Stinkwheel, not going 1/2 hearted into the engine destruction lol.

The prior photo's of mine were not my own work (bought them like it) but here is one of mine. My first seizure:

Model: DT125R Diagnosis: Worn rings from constant redlining everywhere

A mate of mine once bought a bike, very cheaply, that was 'running on 3, probably a minor problem'. Taking the engine apart, there was a tennis ball attached to the conrod to stop it rattling in the bore and no piston present at all. How we laughed!

Cheers

Hi

Charlottes CB125T piston from many years ago.

https://www.alfa-pages.co.uk/TempPicture/piston.jpg

This blown up Bandit (not mine!) was pretty impressive:-

https://www.alfa-pages.co.uk/TempPicture/BlownUpBandit/

Rod let and punched through most of the crankcases, including smashing the starter motor off the back of the engine.

All the best

Keith
