Much difference
going to stick 10w40 in mine,
ive purposly not bought a really hitech one as ive heard the additives make clutch slip.

the bottle ive got says no additives just a bog standard semi synth 10w40 for petrol and diesel engines, reccommended for turbo engines.

Will it go bang? Laughing

Does it ... funny how I've used Castrol GTX in both my 1200 Bandit and GSX1400 for years with any clutch slip ... sure it's not Magnatec (or whatever it's called) you mean!!

......... then reads on to the next couple of posts down Embarassed Laughing

As long as the oil doesn't have friction modifiers in it you shouldn't have a problem Thumbs Up

As far as I'm concerned people who spent £20 extra for a bike specific oil just like throwing money down the drain!!

All the best ... Barry

My FZR got 10W40 Valvoline Mineral oil at $12 for 5 litres.

No problems at all.

I buy it in 25L drums which brings the price down. Think the last lot cost about £50 for 25L (not sure as I bought 25L of antifreeze and some brake fluid at the same time).

All the best

Where do you get it from? I would buy a 25L barrel, but nowhere to store it at the moment.

Plus I guess you then need a syphon. Or I suppose a bit of clear pipe would do?

Hi

Local Rock Oil distributor. Used to do BP oil which I used to get from them.

25L barrel can be lifted and poured pretty easily. Price per litre might drop further with a 205L drum, but that would be a touch inconvenient.

All the best

Keith

I have had no problems buying the 5l bottles of ASDA 10w40 car oil and using it in my CG125.

I wouldn't use it in my ZZR though.

Hi

Magnetec has a reputation for causing clutch slip, so that might well be an issue.

Personally think it is very unlikely to "ruin the bike". The Bandit engine is an old enough design to be from before anyone thought of a motorcycle specific grade of oil.

All the best

Keith

Hi

Personally think that is marketting rubbish. Oils do stick to things, but magnetec has a few other additves.

Bike engine and a car engine are pretty much a like. Only real difference is that bike engines have wet clutches and that bikes engines share their oil with the gearbox (but then there are cars that specify normal engine oil for their gearboxes).

All the best

Keith
