How do I stop the above? It's really annoying, there is one search engine, Google, learn this Firefox, stop adding this useless shite to the search bar.

Thanks for answers in advance.

By unchecking the check box when you install it. Simple as that. Never been a problem for me.

I don't get a choice when it updates, and I didn't install it, it came ready installed.

I can't find anything in addons at all... Confused

I formatted the other day and while installing a bunch of apps i couldn't believe the amount of times i had to tell them not to install the ask bar!

For it not to be listed as an addon though is quite worrying, i suppose it could be hard written into the source before being complied as a complete guess.

Either way i expect un-installing and download the latest version from mozilla and you should be good to go!

I'll have a look through the source files, amend as needed and try first, but will get the latest version if that fails. Thumbs Up

Can anyone tell me, in your version (without the unwanted ask.com bar), in the file:

firefox/<profile>/localstore.rdf

If there is the line:

<RDF:Description RDF:about="chrome://mozapps/content/extensions/extensions.xul#searchbox"
value="ask.com" />

Thanks in advance.

Nothing I can see. Checked with a friend, and he's got the same, I think it might be a bug with the Ubuntu release.

Try disabling the ubuntu addon. I assumed you were talking about an XP install. I dual boot and have no such problems, however with the ubuntu addon enabled it would always open the saved session despite me telling it to open to my home page. Once the ubuntu addon was disabled it went back to normal. May be worth changing.

After typing that and 1 google i found this. Good luck

Just installed a new theme and the Ask toolbar was embedded, cancelled it straight away! Crafty underhand buggers. Evil or Very Mad

Annoying, I couldn't find anything about it in my Googling. Maybe I should have tried Ask.com. ;p

And he's just Karma bashing me, because I rated something as redundant in this thread. De-restricting a fuel injected bike by removing the restriction in the carbs. Rolling Eyes

Back on subject, I'll keep an eye on that thread. Thanks. Smile

Old Thread Alert!

The last post was made 16 years, 8 days ago. Instead of replying here, would creating a new thread be more useful?
