I did my first track day recently. It was a bit daunting at first but I got into it as my confidence grew.
Things to take.
tyre pressure guage and pump (as its suggested you run at slightly lower pressures on the track)
electrical tape or similar, to tape over your speedo, so you arent distracted by looking at it
spanners etc to remove indicators and mirrors
at some circuits you can camp for free, so consider going up the night before, and maybe staying the night after , as you might not fancy a long ride back
if nothing else, a tent is a good place to stash stuff while on the track
Something else I'd suggest, is a way of doing things thats suggested by california superbike school. Marjay on this forum posted it.
Basically, you take things in stages.
The way I did it, was initially go round in one gear not using brakes, just engine braking. Then go to two gears, maybe second and third. Only going to next stage when you are comfortable. Next stage is accelerating harder out of bends, and braking harder before corners.
If you ride fast anyway, you might not need to try that staged technique, but it definitely helped me. Keeping things simple when first on the track, and there is a lot going on, is good.
There will probably be people faster than you, but their job is to go round you, so just keep on a predictable line, and no sudden movements as they pass. They should give you space. ____________________ colin1 is officially faster than god |

One thing to watch out for if like i did you are going into the novice group is straight line heros !
Take you time and be careful coming into corners as some people just hit the brakes hard and almost paddle their way around taking the weirdest of lines.
As the day went on i found it settled down and you could spot the riders that needed to be given the widest margin
I posted a vid in the silverstone thread which shows how bunch ups can happen and also a good example of a slow rider struggling around the corners.

Probably one of the most "physically" tough circuits in the UK, theres no time to rest .
Take plenty of water/energy drinks/etc... with you to keep you going, especially if its hot, you'll sweat buckets.
