'our records show that on the above mentioned date you were convited of a driving offence but did not produc ur driving licence or only produced part of your driving licence to the court for your offence to be endorsed (recorded)'

well the court already penned in the endorsement on my paper counterpart. so if i send of my licence to the dvla are they going to endorse me AGAIN for the same thing? if they do i will loose my licence!

Send a letter, recorded post, stating that the courts have had all your documents and have returned them endorsed. Any other correspondence should be directed to the courts. You have discharged all your legal requirements. Let the DVLA and the Courts sort it out between them.

I think you understood enough not to warrant the correction.

No, you've just made a right mess of it, your authority to correct grammar in future has just been revoked.

FFS, QEI reporting for duty.

The DVLA are having problems too, must be a YTS worker.

or

The DVLA are having problems too; must be a YTS worker.

or

The DVLA are having problems too. Must be a YTS worker.

Well then Thinking

The DVLA are having problems, too - Must be a YTS worker.

My understanding of the dash means that it can be used to connect an independent clause with an interrupting thought. I shouldn't have capitalised the 'M', though.

The use of the comma before "too" was a fifty-fifty decision. I believe the comma can be used when the "too" means "also" and not in the sense of excess.

I did however fail English, although, I do try my best.

I don't think you can use the semi-colon here as the latter part isn't really an independent clause, it doesn't make sense on it's own, therefore, the latter part (to my understanding) is an interrupting thought. Wink

Feel free to mark my reasoning with a big fat 'F'. Wink

F Laughing

'Must be a YTS worker' is, grammatically, an independent clause (it makes sense on it's own, context is irrelevant).

You could use a comma before 'too', if you wanted to emphasize the 'too', but it really doesn't require added emphasis and thus looks/sounds odd.

You can use the dash, but it's usually used in dialogue and not strictly correct when a comma or semi-colon can be used (it's very rarely used in academic works).

Doh!

English, who would have thought it was my first language? Laughing

I might actually do some studying on the matter. There's no excuse for not learning your native language.

Epicfaildom here I come.

You'd be better off imagining everything you write as being spoken, and 'hear' how it sounds. Correct grammar (written) is fine until an obsession with it makes a sentence sound peculiar. I read a lot of correctly written academic stuff that sounds fvcked-up because the grammar is perfect. The term 'common useage' springs to mind, though that can be taken way too far (text-speak for example).

Apply the KISS principle (keep it simple, stupid Laughing ).
