Jalapenos often aren't very hot.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I found this on HotUKDeals this evening, Dorset Naga Chilli Seeds. They're probably a little out of my league but some of you lot may appreciate them Wink

Sorry to bump up this old thread but I need to ask a question.

Do I need to pluck any leaves off my chilli plants?

I have 4 chilli plants which are ~10inches tall. My Dad came round the other day and said I need to pinch the leaves and proceeded to start pulling little shoots off between the stem and the 'branches'

I stopped him as my Dad isn't always the brightest of sparks but after doing a bit of online research read about 'pinching' but couldn't finding if or what I need to pinch.

Anyone?

As it has been bumped...
I was given what looked like 3 sticks in a pot last year - scotch bonnet. Fed watered nurtured etc and ended up with about 40 peppers ranging from sweet pepper mild to pretty dayam hot. The plant is now 3 larger sticks with many twiglets but not growing Sad

About half way down the page:
Once your seedlings have a few leaves, snip off the weaker ones and only keep the strongest plants.
That is the closest I saw for what you wanted

Seem to be healthy, re-potting the Jalapeños at the weekend. Does anyone know why the Jalapeños aren't growing straight? Quite a few have grown with a 'kink' in them and seem quite thin?

I have three types of Habenero and some Cayenne type growing. my cayennes are just coming into flower. I grow on a 50 50 mix of potting compost and Vermiculite and feed with a tomato formula.

picking buds off newly developed leaves encourages the plant to grow more shoots out of the main stem leading to bushier plants with lots of flower/fruit

Most of the plants died - due to lack of watering/forgetting them

Got a couple still going and keep lookng fragile/weak

Josh told me today there are chillis on my plants Neutral

I was smiling lol - I got a 'hot wax' and jalapenos comming along nicely. I wanna eat now!!!

I know there not as hot as what you guys have but - I have grown something lol.

I buy all my seeds from these guys South Devon Chilli farm.
How are you feeding your plants? I use tomato feed at 50% strength once a week and water as required in between. I would not grow Scotch Bons, not because I do not like them but they are easy to buy so I grow exotics.
My plants are looking fit.

Not enough / too much?? - and by large just say - pint & a half.

Check on the bottle, stuff I use is 2 caps to the gallon for toms, I just use the one.
Plant at Feb half term and keep wet and warm is my best advice for seeds

Take a photo of your plants please.

Leave the fruit on the plant untill they ripen (change colour) The top plants look fine but the other one has no actual leaves on it, how on earth does it photosynthesize? Confused

Get them planted up into a good quality potting compost and feed them.

The dehydrated compost stuff that comes with those kits has very little by way of nutrients in it.

John Innes #2 is good compost.
