I've lost my bloody key for the GSXR SRAD Evil or Very Mad

I didn't have a spare when I bought it, so anyone got an idea what my next step should be? Should I transport it to a Suzuki dealer, or to a locksmith or something?!

Cheers.

Crying or Very sad

ETA: Possibly should be in the workshop section? Sorry! Also, after more searching it seems the best course of action is to take the ignition barrel out (somehow...) and take it to an automotive locksmith? Is that the generally agreed best course of action?

Offer a prayer of thanks that it doesn't have a key based immobiliser. Laughing
I'd phone a Suzuki dealer and ask. Do you have the key number?

OK, rang a Suzuki dealer and they said I'd need a new set of barrels for ~£200 Confused I don't have a key number unfortunately.

I then found this guy: https://www.skeletonkeys.biz/index.htm and gave him a ring. He reckons he can come out to me and make a new set of keys for £120 - should I have any reason not to believe him? The keys aren't likely to be a poor fit and only sort of work or something like that?

Ta.

Some locksmiths can make a key from the barrel. Can be a little pricy, but you're asking a lot from them.

Phone round a few.

I lost my key to my FZR (jumped out when I was riding along Confused Mad ), I took the barrel off myself and took it to a locksmith, who sorted a new key.

If you could do that it would be cheaper, I think I paid $30AUD - about £12.

Should be no problem with his 'work' though.

One point to note - make sure that he cuts the key with reference to the fuel cap/pillion release, certainly on the Yamaha it needed additional modification to open all three. They use different portions of the key AFAIK, and different patterns.

Take the barrel off and take it to a locksmith. THey should be able to make you one easily enough.

What's the chances of picking up the barrel and other locks with keys as a job lot from a wreckers ?

I really have no idea on the cost but figured I'd throw it out there as an idea anyway Smile
May as well check out all your options right ?

My bike was stolen before I bought it, they found it with no damage but both keys gone.

They just replaced the entire lockset. Thumbs Up

Try the breakers first, a lockset is cheaper than that lot, the only hassle being removing the existing tank and seat unit locks. You could drill those out though.

Cheers

Lost the key to my old bandit. Hammer and a screwdriver seemed to do the trick for a while.

My local breakers knows a guy that'll do it for £40. If you want to send the barrel to me I can take it in.

Hi

Think the mobile guy charged me £60 (prices do seem to be all over the place) to cut a key to match the lock. I took the lock still in the top yoke with me to him. Rather easier if you didn't leave the steering lock on.

All the best

Keith

I did this with my honda CBR, with the bloody HISS system. I had a stroke of luck in that I had gotten the key copied naievely when I knew nothing of the chip in it, otherwise I would have had to get new locks as part of the deal. As it was I needed a new ECU and new keys. Worked out about £400.

I don't think suzuki will have fitted such an annoyance to your bike (cos lets be honest, they like to be budget) so ring around and see what you can get or like suggested, get a full set from a breakers or ebay Thumbs Up
