There is very often on this forum people asking for advice after getting ticketed for speeding.
The latest one being not very far over the limit at a very quiet time of day.
So the question is...Could you be a camera van operator or a plod dishing out speeding tickets, knowing that this will not do anything to help road safety?
Could you be the person that issues a ticket that will lose somebody's licence or freedom?
Would you conscience or ego allow you to do this?
Personally even if these people were paid £200 grand a year i wouldn't and couldn't do it.
Anybody else?

Plus they pay isn't that bad for sitting on yer arse all day.

I think, any one of us, if made redundant tomorrow would take a job like this straight away.

Nope definitely couldn't do that because I wouldn't be able to live with my own hypocrisy.
Earlier this year when there was a very good chance of loosing my job completely I was put onto a traffic wardens job and knowing most of the people who worked there it would have been a shoe in for me getting the position. After considering it I decided that I just couldn't live with the thought of bringing so much misery to people on a daily basis.

We all know the risks of speeding, getting caught isnt nice but at the end of the day we make our own choices. If it was a choice between my family going hungry and catching speeders then I'd happily operate the van. Im not sure I could operate it sneakily, hiding in bushes etc. though. I wouldnt actively seek out such employment however. If the pay was 200k a year I would happily do it, I would even crush the bike for them!

The same applies to the policing of any 'acceptable' crime. WOuld you be the one who prosecutes people for copying DVS, or downloading movies etc?

None of us are forced to speed, I choose to and will take the punishment when it comes because unfortunately thats just 'the way'. I'll be gutted and pissed off but what can you do?

I wouldn't think twice about dishing the tickets out if they were justified. I wouldn't be a jobsworth though and stick to the book exactly. I would make fair judgements and let people off accordingly.

I said to my mate, who was applying for the coppers at the time, would you give me a ticket if you caught me doing 40 in a 30 zone and he said no.

Exactly fuckin right!!! Laughing Laughing Laughing
i`d be fair about it though and wouldn`t bother ticketing people for every minor offence.

At the end of the day you make your own decision to speed on the roads when you already know there`s cameras/vans all over the place so if you get caught it`s a fair cop.Don`t see how there`s any moral or unethical reason to not do that job.

Now,if you asked me would i join the police for 200k a year i`d say "fuck that....not a chance".
Coppers are the lowest form of life as far as i`m concerned.

I used to think a lot of the jobsworth actually beleived the bullshit about how speeding kills kittens, but reading some responses here it turns out even you bikers would be a dirty jobsworth causing people to suffer for the money (although only a small minority...but one would hope that minority would be zero)

If the rules aren't broken there's no need to be sanctioned for it.

If you aren't caught breaking the rules there's no reason to be crying over it.

So on that basis; the tool's that choose to break the law and get caught somewhat deserve a sanction. I couldn't do it or I'd be purposely terrible at it and get demoted or something but I have always wanted to ride/drive around on blue's and two's. Razz

I could do it very easy....

If you can't do the time, don't do the crime....

Stupid or not the limits are there and we all know them... Get caught and tough.

I fully believe that there should be no escaping a ban if you reach 12 points.... No matter who or whatever the reason. Lose your job tough.... Lose your freedom Double tough...

They know how many points they have, and what they have to do to avoid the ban....
In fact any that plead that they should keep their licence after racking up 12 points would recieve double ban/fine and have to ratake a very hard test as well as being warned that each point after licence regained will result in a further ban..... Karma

Hi

Personally no I couldn't do the job. Couldn't take being such a total hypocrit (same applies to being a copper and enforcing various other laws).

To me not doing something purely because it is against the law is the weakest justification possible. The law is there as a code around a framework of reasonable behavior. If the behavior is reasonable but against the law then that law is wrong.

As to pay, suspect that they are probably on under £20k (ie, about the same as the motorway wombles and PCSOs).

All the best

Keith

Exactly, the law is decided by members of parliament, whom it seems are some of the worst fraudsters in the country. Moral judgements of an MP are pretty muchy worthless.
