Why the fuck does ear wax exist Evil or Very Mad

Few weeks ago I was having a shower and got some water in my ear, the following morning I woke up and couldn't hear anything. It's called 'swimmers ear' apparantly when water is prevented from leaving the ear due to excessive wax.

Anyway at first it would go away after 30mins or so until eventually I was left with a clogged ear all day. It's crap because when it happens my balance and judgement all become shit not to mention the frustration of not being able to hear.

So I started taking drops and then went to the doctors. I was under the impression they where going to be syringed but instead they put some stupid fucking water pulse jet thing up there which has made things 10x worse and now my ears are painful.

She said keep taking the drops and come back in a few days...

Anyone had this before and is there anything I can do at home to sot it out?

Olive oil? Softens the wax and then it works itself out. Put a few drops in and 'plug' the ear with cotton wool overnight. Worked for me recently when I stopped hearing out of one ear/went dizzy etc. I have heard the irrigation processes sometimes sometimes go nasty, with perforated ear drums and the like.

If it's sore, it could be an infection which they usually give antibiotics for, and advise you not to use ear drops that are designed to soften wax. Might just be sore because the ear is delicate and the process isn't such a delicate one. Also don't stick anything in the ear cos it usually pushes the wax further inside. Thumbs Up

I had this, after I started swimming once again after a long (years and years of) break.

I went down to the GP and they told me to drip olive oil into my ear and try to keep it in there for like 20minutes. (so you've to lay down basically)

I did that for a week, went back and with that water pulse jet thing they got out so much shit out of my ear, I couldn't believe it. What a relief afterwards.

apparently the olive oil helps softening up the wax, so when the high pressure water goes in, it somehow pushes out all the stuff. It's definitely worth a try and I was ready to do quite a lot of things to get rid of the water stuck in my ear as the first night I woke up with an almost unbearable pain in there..that was crap.

What about those candle things?

You light one end and the heat/vacuum draws out the wax.

I tried those ear candles after getting a badly blocked ear from scuba diving. Worked brilliantly, although it's pretty gross how much crap comes out of an infected ear!!!
Easy to use if you have somone to help, otherwise I imagine it'd be difficult to know when it had burnt enough.
Highly recommend getting some Thumbs Up

I went deaf in my right ear a few months back and then got tinnitus, went to the doctors and he syringed my ears out and I was still deaf but over a few weeks after that my hearing came back and my tinnitus disappeared.

The drops did sod all for me, just gave me false hope Sad

Seems silly, but what I do is have a very hot bath every day and I must submerge my head for 10 - 20 minutes, whilst reading.

Never have any wax now.

Getting your ears 'syringed' is REALLY bad for them.... it can open your ear up to all sorts of infections.

These guys:

https://www.clearearclinic.com/

Are excellent. If you are in London/South east they are well worth a visit, or search for a similar thing somewhere else. Thumbs Up

not sure where I got them from, but I've got some ear drops that are bleach. lean your head to one side, few drops in your ear, then you'll hear lots of bubbling and fizzing, once that stop lean your head the other way and use a tissue to catch what comes out of the ear.

works really well, takes about 30 seconds to get rid of all wax from an ear. go ask some pharmacises and get yourself some ear drops that are bleach. Thumbs Up

or, if you're feeling brave/stupid, dilute some household bleach and try that. Razz

Warm olive oil softens any hardened earwax, the nurse advise my mother to do it for a couple of weeks prior to having her ears syringed.

Me and the wife just use hydrogen peroxide.

Hydrogen Peroxide, strange you mention it as my brother said the only thing that cured it for him where otex ear drops which are Hydrogen Peroxide.

If this olive oil and ear wash dont work I'm just gonna get the Otex ear kit, failing that; household bleach.

I had a similar problem 4 months ago where i was deaf in one ear for two months, mine was glue ear though, so it might be that, seams strange but they gave me a nasal spray which i used once a day and it eventually went after 2 months, worst times ever. i went to the doctor and she said its one of those things it can clear in 2 days or 10 years... i said thanks haha so vague. It might be this especially if you have had a cold as of late

That's what brought all this on Very Happy

The hydrogen peroxide seems to be doing a good job of giving me ear orgasms and loosening the wax, the big test is tomorrow when they are flushed for a second time.
