Why the fuck does ear wax exist
Few weeks ago I was having a shower and got some water in my ear, the following morning I woke up and couldn't hear anything. It's called 'swimmers ear' apparantly when water is prevented from leaving the ear due to excessive wax.
Anyway at first it would go away after 30mins or so until eventually I was left with a clogged ear all day. It's crap because when it happens my balance and judgement all become shit not to mention the frustration of not being able to hear.
So I started taking drops and then went to the doctors. I was under the impression they where going to be syringed but instead they put some stupid fucking water pulse jet thing up there which has made things 10x worse and now my ears are painful.
She said keep taking the drops and come back in a few days...
Anyone had this before and is there anything I can do at home to sot it out? ____________________ 2012 KTM EXC 250

Olive oil? Softens the wax and then it works itself out. Put a few drops in and 'plug' the ear with cotton wool overnight. Worked for me recently when I stopped hearing out of one ear/went dizzy etc. I have heard the irrigation processes sometimes sometimes go nasty, with perforated ear drums and the like.
If it's sore, it could be an infection which they usually give antibiotics for, and advise you not to use ear drops that are designed to soften wax. Might just be sore because the ear is delicate and the process isn't such a delicate one. Also don't stick anything in the ear cos it usually pushes the wax further inside. ____________________ CBT February 2008 | A2 June 2008 | Yamaha YBR125 (written off) | Honda CBF125 (current) |

What about those candle things?
You light one end and the heat/vacuum draws out the wax. ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

I tried those ear candles after getting a badly blocked ear from scuba diving. Worked brilliantly, although it's pretty gross how much crap comes out of an infected ear!!!
Easy to use if you have somone to help, otherwise I imagine it'd be difficult to know when it had burnt enough.
Highly recommend getting some ____________________ Currently Riding: Triumph Sprint ST 1050

I went deaf in my right ear a few months back and then got tinnitus, went to the doctors and he syringed my ears out and I was still deaf but over a few weeks after that my hearing came back and my tinnitus disappeared.
The drops did sod all for me, just gave me false hope |

Getting your ears 'syringed' is REALLY bad for them.... it can open your ear up to all sorts of infections.
These guys:

Are excellent. If you are in London/South east they are well worth a visit, or search for a similar thing somewhere else. ____________________ Love is 1050cc |

not sure where I got them from, but I've got some ear drops that are bleach. lean your head to one side, few drops in your ear, then you'll hear lots of bubbling and fizzing, once that stop lean your head the other way and use a tissue to catch what comes out of the ear.
works really well, takes about 30 seconds to get rid of all wax from an ear. go ask some pharmacises and get yourself some ear drops that are bleach.
or, if you're feeling brave/stupid, dilute some household bleach and try that. |

Warm olive oil softens any hardened earwax, the nurse advise my mother to do it for a couple of weeks prior to having her ears syringed.
Me and the wife just use hydrogen peroxide. ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.
