GSXR paint on GS500
ZX6R on ER-6
GSXR on GSF

...you know. Being a 'middleweight' rider, I wouldn't buy a touring/trad/commuting bike in sportsbike colours, I think, other people would think, rightly... "That tit on a GS500 in GSXR colours". Kinda like buying a bog standard Fiesta with RS badges and white stripes applied by the owner... who are you kidding?

TBF I've seen an SV1000 in Suzuki racing and it looked Cool

...but for an 'average' bike, I think it be naff. That's it. Cheers.

To be fair they are supplied from the manufacturer with the paint-job whereas 'Joe-Chav' puts the ST crap on his 1.2 Fiesta. It's more fair to compare it to those BMW 'M-Sports', all the looks, none of the performance.

Although I do actually quite like the looks of race replica commuters... Embarassed

beatnick recently tried an sv1000, and he didnt like the shitty suspension, being used to a speed four. You might want to try it.

I'd prefer to have something with better spec components that looked a bit tatty, than something the same price which looked nice and shiny but with cheap components.

I do agree that too much bling on a turd is a bit ick. A little bling on a turd that just distracts from its turdyness, is ok.

But the way to go, is for the bike to embrace what it is and not to try to be anything else.

A £2000 paint job on a £1000 bike just makes the owner look like an idiot, in my opinion.

There's little point copying another bikes colour scheme, if doing a full spray job you might as well custom design a new sporty scheme for it... would look much better.

Yamaha used to supply FS1Es in Kenny Roberts speedblock colours. They had pedals.

Not really what OP is talking 'bout willis, but I find this a humourous little anecdote nonetheless.

My former lab partner tells me her now ex-boyfriend had a Mito125 when he was learning.
He painted it in Blue/White GSXR colours because his friends had GSXRs.

(He now has a Blue/White GSXR, and I have yet to see the poor Mito.)

From then on, I and the bicycle feelings deeper.

The GS500F in GSXR colours is the most tragic example... moreso than the CBR125 in Repsol livery. If you can ride a 500 you can ride a GSXR so bloody well get one if you want one that bad.

Race-rep schemes look tacky whatever they're on to my mind.

To the OP...

Meh, a faired GS500 looks sporty enough to the layman. And would be quick enough to shut most cagers up.

Would I have one? Would I fuck.

But then I'd never have a race rep now.

Which brings me to my second point;

'Officer, I saw a red/black bike whizz past...'

'Officer, I saw a black and yellow bike whizzing past, it had 'Camel' written all over it'

Which one is going to make you easier to identify. Used to know a guy with a zx9r who I used to ride with occasionally. Green helmet, lids, leathers... but reasonably incognito. So he added a dirty great big green mohawk Rolling Eyes

He only had to mention mohawk and every one recognised him. He never twigged that might be a bad thing.

Then again, lets not mention the time just before the CBR where I nearly bought a purple 'Cadbury's boost' Thundercat Neutral Laughing

Ha ha, straight line warrior, even I could drop him in the twisties!

Erm... [/off topic]

Kind of agree but then most of the people on here know something about bikes so it'd look a bit naff to most people on here, as has been said someone who's not clued up will still think it's a sportsbike anyway so it's all good.

As I've said before, people of the public seem to think my very 'utilitarian' zx9r is actually some pretty amazing bike, so their perceptions may not be what you'd expect!

There is a guy with an 08 SV650 in the Corona colors round the corner from me. The bike looks really smart IMO.

I think Yamaha "competition yellow" predates Kenny Roberts riding for them, sorry.

But it was Kenny Roberts who introduced the speedblock design.

As happened to a friend of mine up north - whilst furiously denying whatever he'd done the officers pointed out that he was riding what was probably the only Guinness replica in the whole of Scotland, let alone the Aberdeen area.

That would look good in pink and burgundy though. Pick a less cool bike.

I've seen old 50cc mopeds in the Rothmans rep scheme, I usually snigger and think how tacky it looks but on bigger bikes I love it.

You could do it, but it's got to be done tastefully and there's a fine line between tasteful and not so tasteful.
