recomend a bike for me

Evening all, Im currently selling my road bike so I can get an off roader to do a bit of green lanning on.

Problem is, I don;t know very much about this type of bike, I;ve got a list of bikes to consider.

It would be great is you could give me your thoughts on these bikes and mabey add some others i've missed.

Budget is about £900 and can under take most tasks myself ( checking valves on 4T, rebuilding a 2 stroke top end)

I'll use for light road use, mainly just getting muddy and having fun, less than 2000 miles a year


2 stroke bikes-

KTM EXC 250/300
Honda CRM 250
Kawasaki KDX 250



4 stroke bikes-


Kawasaki KLX 250
Yammaha TTR 250
" XT 350
Honda XR 350

My experience FWIW was finding something that is in good condition and within budget is the main criteria - then look at the pros and cons of the model.

Your budget should get you something reasonable but you may need to do some hunting - took me a couple of weeks and I think I was quite lucky. I know of a KTM 610 (M reg) going for about £900 if you're interested, but it's a big old kickstarter so probably not what you're after.

Try looking on other Forums as I found mine on the xrv.org There are the ukgser.com and advrider.com (worldwide site, so big) for some starters.

Consider a Honda XR250 or 400! Good bikes, I got mine for a grand, it's in reasonable condition and rides well bar a small issue that was quickly fixed with an arc welder other than that its a good bike for little money..

I'd get a CRM250 for that money as they are nippy and well built, there's a place down the road from me called Leisure Trail who do allsorts of trick / stock parts for them too

I had an mk1 back in the day and it was a brilliant trail bike, way more grunty than the DT200WR I had after it (not as trick though ).

Just sold my RF for £740, so thats my budget for another bike, might be able to bumb it upto £800. Now the hunt is on for a bike. hope to be out getting muddy by next weekend

I nearly got the klx 250 untill i realised they have no key or steering lock. so.... i need to choose between these bikes
