Hi

I need to go down to Westminster soon for a few days. I know that you are now charged for bike parking there.

However how safe is it? If you park a bike up overnight with a chain on it what are the chances of it still being there in the morning?

All the best

Keith

Hi Keith

You'd be better off parking in one of the free car parks Thumbs Up

EDIT: In fact there are more than are listed. Do a search near where you are staying.

Hi

Cheers. While they list how many bays they have by area there doesn't appear to be a way to know which of their car parks do have bays.

Area I need to go to is Marylebone.

All the best

Keith

Chances are, it would probably still be there... but you may have gained some extra scratches from the scooters that ram up against you, and also once into the evenings, cars seem to think it's ok to park in bike bays too! Rolling Eyes

I would advise parking in a secure car park, it's not 'that' close to Marylebone, but the car park I use in Soho only charges £4 for 24 hours parking. Well worth it for the knowledge that your bike will at least be 'reasonably' safe compared to paying £1.50 to park on the road!

I have left my bike overnight (or certainly to about 8am the following morning) on the road but I would really prefer not to so that is why I now use the NCP!

I'm sure there are some NCP's nearer to Marylebone that also accept bikes and would charge similar (or maybe slightly less as it's not Soho!).

Hi Keith

Cramer Street has some. There's a Motorbike symbol in the "facilities" section.

Hi

Cheers, as does Chiltern car park.

Suppose I had better register to pay by phone.

All the best

Keith

I'm an occasional visitor to the capital... I thought I'd start taking advantage of the free bike parking - cheaper and quicker than the tube... but like all things council related it doesn't make much sense to me:

from https://www.westminster.gov.uk/services/transportandstreets/parking/wheretopark/vehicletype/motorcycle/carparks/
"Motorcycles can now park off-street in a dedicated motorcycle bay in our secure car parks (excluding Soho). 1053 dedicated motorcycle spaces are available across the car parks.

Because parking for motorcycles is free, just drive around the barrier at the entrance of the car park to enter. Car park attendants will be able to advise on the location of motorcycle parking spaces."

Great! now I check the directions page:
https://www.westminster.gov.uk/services/transportandstreets/parking/masterpark/marble_arch/
"*Motorcycle parking is available to registerd Pay by Phone users. Please see the Pay by Phone page for further information."

Is one of the pages out of date? Do i need to register before hand? Will I be charged?

Hi

I saw exactly the same thing, hence registering. Could be read that you need to be registered to pay but need not actually pay.

All the best

I parked my scooter in a Westminster bay for 3 years, it only had the ignition ripped out twice.

I parked my bike on street in Westminster for 2 years, only one bunch of blokes in a van turned up to try and nick it.

I like the NCP these days cos you can always get a space and you can always get out of it again. That's worth a few quid to me.

The car park I park in just has a sign for free motorcycle parking and nothing about registering. Been parking there for months without a problem yet I haven't registered. I think that page is out of date.

It is reasonable they want you to register even if no fee so they know whose vehicle is there.
More likely they are not joined up somewhere though Rolling Eyes

If I want free parking in Westminster I use the carpark under the Channel4 building. It's nowhere near Marleybone though.
