Going to look at a slightly strange Husqvarna 610

I'm going to look at a Husqvarna 610 SM, year 2k, in a possible trade with my bike on the weekend... But now having second thoughts. It looks fantastic & spotless in the pics and the guy just said it has a small crack in one fairing as to the overall condition.

But in the pics there aren't pillion pegs, so I asked about them and he said it doesnt have any, standard. Not a problem really if i can pick them up, if he is wrong and it does have the avility to have them. He then also added it doesn't have electric start either.

I thought the 610 has both as standard, can seem to find out what the exact model is... Side panels look replaced but I dont like the old decals anyway.

Thoughts?

Possibly an enduro bike converted to a road bike?

Also, don't waste your time with pillion pegs, especially with a seat like that. The drz I used to have had a seat bigger than that, pillions would make it handle like shit (think weekend warrior wobbly cornering), chuck the front wheel in the air and throw the pillion off simultaniusly and make you feel very very close to whoever it is.

Tried it on my ccm also, which has a proper seat and pegs for pillion, same thing.

Look for things like funny looking wiring arrangements, and find the same year on bikepics/google, and memorize what it looks like. If the bike you see is different, or has a bodged-but-functional lights horn etc it's probably an off road conversion.

You can get ones that will clip on to the subframe rails for not too much, I believe.
Older 610s only had kick, no electric start (with kicker on the left).

The panels do look like they've been replaced with newer ones.

Cheers for the comments guys, I shall keep an eye out for the suggestions & agree G, they look new (Apart from the one he said was cracked, presumably).

The thing is, I take my GF out a lot on my current bike to get to places when she is here. So this sort of bike wouldn't be too great for it!

I thought it was the 610 or my perception of it; that it was more suited for commuter rather than a balls out crazy thing. Thought that was for the 510/450 etc? What then would be the oil changing/rebuild milage on something like this?

My mate had the same one, kick start, no stand or indicators just looked like a converted bike. He spent most his time trying to keep it on the ground as it lifted in every gear.

I had a little go and although it's fun having the front wheel up in the air, I could see that getting very annoying after a while.

It will depend on the gearing - with decent road gearing it shouldn't be too bad as far as trying to flip you goes.

If you're after a more useable moto that actually has hlaf decent service intervals, a seat that doesn't kill you and decent running gear how about a baghira? Or mine, if you like. 02 5k Big red and loud.

The ones I'm thinking clamp onto the frame with a round clamp. Much rarer than your standard pillion peg that goes on the majority of 'normal' bikes.
Think they're sometimes sold for cruisers too, but they don't to be folding for them.

I went to see the bike but I ended up not getting it... It was *extremely* uncomfortable and loud, was basically a MX bike with road wheels and lights; although I don't remember my old YZ 125 being that bad! So no good for any type of commute really.

So I'm still on the lookout for a SM, not more tame, just more comfortable and with a baffel... My ZX maybe on eBay this week.

Looking at LC4 640's at the moment - feel free to give any opinions.

I doubt the SM is much difference - this is as close to a 'serious' supermoto you can get while not having engine servicing listed in hours!

Some of the heavier LC4s may be more road-manageable, but the lighter ones are pretty similar. Seat can easily be sorted to be softer and traffic is best dealt with on one wheel anyway .

The bike specifically wasn't too great (Bit of knocking from the head too) so I wasn't motivated to improve the downfalls such as seat, exhaust etc. I don't mind a wild bike, it's what I'm looking for!

It could be a SM610RR. I had a 2000 model a few years back. Cost £9595 in it's day, came with no rear pegs, lights, indicators, starter. It was the equivelent of an Eddie Steel rep and pretty rare. I had 138mph on the drag strip from mine, awsome bikes but changing the oil (600ml) at the road side every 200miles isn't for everyone.

Pardon my scepticism, but do you have a ticket for that, or was it on the speedo? The KTM990 SM is listed as having a top speed of 141mph for comparison.
Note that the 610 only got electric start pretty recently.

it says "snap" on the side, never a good indication.
