Hi guys,

I'm after a new 125 after flipping my cbr due to a car driver kindly stopping too quickly with no indication, nevermind.

Anyway, I've been set on an nsr, but they're so hard to find at the moment and I lost out on a cheapy recently.

I've seen a nice cagiva planet and aprilia rs, now the cagiva is from a dealer and the rs is private, so obviously the dealer is the safer option. But i think I can get the rs for a fair bit cheaper.

However just not sure about the rs, with it not being the most reliable of bikes.

I'm just worried with the cagiva planet, parts are going to be hard to get hold of when things go wrong. Whereas the rs, parts won't be a problem to find. (because of all the broken aprilia's lol)

Should I just hold out for an nsr?

Also, I know I should get a ybr or cg, and I was going to, but I just can't lol!

Hopefully someone has some info to help sway me in my decision.

Cheers

CG is the only real 125. But if I had to have some sort of pretender it will be a NSR.

Try Hyosung. They are bigger in size them most toy 125's. Reliability is excellent.

Glad it didn't take long for someone to notice it. Was surprised it wasn't mentioned in the first post.
No one with any experience will blame the car in front for stopping. You were too close to stop in the distance you can see, for that, you're always at fault.
I'd get something that's cheap robust and able to sell after you're done. CG, SR etc...
If you're serious about progressing with riding then you'll be wanting a 125 for the time it takes you to pass the test. So a 4t cheap 125 fits the bill perfectly.

Only a sillybilly breaks the no stoppy rule?
Stopping works much better when the rear is just about to leave the ground, not after it has!

As above, though... it's the person behind's responsibility to ensure that even if the driver/rider in front came to a sudden stop with no warning, they would be able to avoid a 'situation'.

Anyway, I think the NSR is the best of the 'all round' 125s mentioned. The 4 strokes are generally too slow; and the GT125 is far too heavy - why you'd want a low powered bike that is as big and heavy as a 600cc one, I don't know.

Only a fool thinks "ignores" fits in a 6 letter space Laughing Anyway, the tempo of the rhyme is ruined if you use a 2 syllable word like "ignores" instead of a 1 syllable word like "breaks"...

Can I have the speedboat in red please?

Right, I did not hit the car in front, and I know it was my fault. I just panicked unfortunately and did not hit the back break. I got a nice dislocated shoulder from it.

Anyway, thanks for the comments, I am tempted to go sensible by buying a ybr, but i'm planning on being on a 125 for quite some time and I do like the sporty bikes.

YBR is sensible if you want good fuel economy and are using it for short trips around town. Not very sensible if you're going to be regularly using 70mph duel carrigeways, at which point an NSR makes much more sense.

See that's what I am worried about, because that is what swayed me away from the ybr to begin with, because I will be using a-roads quite alot.

Anybody here that uses the ybr/cg on a-roads regulary?

Also, will the nsr be reliable for everyday use?

I used a CG last winter for 7000 miles and I've now done over 6000 on my XR125. The XR is lower geared than the CG, so it's pretty much 5 mph slower on the 'fast' bits.

My commute comprises of 1 mile through town, 7 miles of bypass work, 17 miles of A roads then 5 miles through a busy town. 50mph cruising is fine for most of it, unless there's an Audi up my arse. Sitting on the bypass sections, with traffic screaming by at 80mph, often makes me wonder what the hell the bloody rush is - you're going to work for the day - is it really something to race ahead to. The strange thing is, is that living in South East UK, the traffic usually travels as fast as that anyway, along the A road stretches especially, in rush hour traffic, I pretty much just cruise with the rest of the flow of vehicles. It does make me chuckle when some 4x4 monsters past me on an A-road at 90mph, for me to just trickle by a little over walking pace when filtering to the front of a junction.

Each trip costs me about £1.30 in fuel (if my maths is correct), so a whole week's commuting - 300 miles or so, costs me about £13.00 with today's fuel prices.

The trip usually takes me around 45 minutes - but I'm a punctual chap, so I usually arrive at work 10 minutes early anyway. Those longer way home cruises through the tiny lanes and villages are savoured more when I'm plodding along at less than 40mph too. I just don't get in a mad rush to be anywhere anymore and can let my mind wander when riding a bike so simple, that seems that will never let me down.

Tailgating traffic also makes next to no difference to me now - do they really expect my bike to double its capacity and cruise faster if they sit a few feet off my back wheel. Laughing

Thanks for that post Craig, really helpful and assuring! I think i'll go for the ybr, makes more sense, and I will save loads of petrol and insurance. And I agree, no idea why people rush so much, I like a steady ride too lol.

Did you ride the cg without a flyscreen? do you know if it makes much difference?

Right, got a ybr still in mind, but a cheap hyosung gt comet has popped up, for 300 less than the ybr.

Any thoughts guys?

Reviews on hyosung seem pretty good.

Whats the best bet?

Thanks

I would no more buy a second hand Chinese ( or Korean) bike than use a second hand condom.

But what price does that put it at?
I had a look at a YBRs on ebay and they were all stupidly expensive for a bike that's main virtue is it's cheap to run. Expensive bikes will depreciate one way or another if used, making them not cheap to run in miles per £ lost if nothing else.
If the comet is under £1k, I'd say it's worth considering, though they are big and heavy, as well being slow compared to some of oth other 125cc possibilities.

It's £895 and the ybr i'm looking at i can get for £1200.

It's not going to be slower than the ybr though is it?

I'm after reliability more so than speed!

How old? There's none that cheap near me at the moment, only a 2004 for £995

Where do you look for a bargain like that?

I try the usual, biketrader, ebay, gumtree, pistonheads etc..

While I dislike the very idea of the korean comet (overly complex and incredibly heavy 125), it probably is worth considering at that price if it's not had /too/ hard a life.
