Better control at low speed, trials riders do not sit. I doubt the bars on a sports bike actualy allow standing and the cops will not agree with me.

Do it to stretch my legs occasionally - always feel like a retard though so only when the road is empty! Mr. Green

Do it all the time for a leg stretch. What other alternative is there really ?

I thought so long as you were astride the bike you were ok.
Hell you stand when you stop, can't be too much difference surely.

But you are in control, both hands and both feet are all touching the correct controls. As long as your not on a proper head down/arse up sports bike, you could probably still brake pretty hard aswell.

In a car, alot of cars have a place to rest your clutch foot when on the motorway etc.....does that mean anyone caught with their foot not actually resting on the clutch could be done for 'not in control'?

I do it momentarily to let the circulation get back to my legs. On my CBT, the instructor told me to do it over the radio during the ride. I thought "Huh? Might as well try it...".

I was arsing around standing on the pegs on the CB250RS on the A1(M) once.

Right peg snapped off, had to ride 40 miles with my right foot on the swingarm. Laughing

Why, the leg-dangle of course! With sole-dragging if it's a 50 zone or under Very Happy

After a heft ride >300miles at the weekend i'd lost all feeling in my arse. I did it now and then to re-circulate the blood.

I always stand on the pegs for speed bumps. The bike seems happier with it too.

I do it off-road all the time obviously but I suppose you could argue that it's dangerous on road as if you had to suddenly hit the brakes you would probably come off. I don't think you could brake very hard at all stood up on the pegs with low bars without toppling forwards as you have absolutely nothing to push back against. Given that braking decelleration can exceed 1g imagine trying to hold your whole body weight on your arms with them down round your waist when lying horizontally Laughing I certainly pop-up occasionally on a long journey but going along for any distance would probably incur the wrath of the boys in blue.

I do it quite often when I am out with slower bikes (like my brothers mates on 125s), did about 10miles stood up. Changing gears before corners etc.

I once got stopped for riding along a rough cobbled street standing on the pegs (I was actually checking to see if my newly fabricated headlight bracket was going to stay where it was put).

Remember that most coppers have only the vaguest of ideas what they are talking about, especially with regard to motorcycle riding.

If there is one thing a copper doesn't like, it's looking like he doesn't know what he's on about. So if you carry on like what you were doing is perfectly normal, they'll probably go along with it. If you look guilty and appologise, they may well give you a ticket.

"I suppose you know why we've stopped you?" (fishing, never answer this, you might accidentally admit to speeding when they had noticed a blown tail light).

"No." (your move, Dibble)

"You were stood up on the pegs all the way along Criffel Street."

"Yes, I was. It's a bumpy surface." (element of surprise, they were expecting a denial or a guilty look)

*Short period of silence*

"And you're in control when you do that are you?" (Seeds of doubt, still trying to get me to admit to doing something wrong)

"Yes. Have you never watched motocross riders?" (Who's asking the questions now. They now have to justify themselves.)

"I've seen them, but I don't normally see people riding like that on the road." (nearly a comeback, he's still trying)

"Well, if you look at it, this bike is actually designed to be ridden while standing on the pegs. See these things here? They're knee grips." (Pull-up, pull-up)

"Oh right you are then, just keep your speed down."

*gets back in car*

To stand up on the pegs is perfectly legal providing you maintain control of the bike why you do so. The regulations do not state that you must be sat on the bike, it is all about control.

I don't like doing it, feels weird on a sports bike.

I do like a cheeky little 'no-handed sit-up-straight back-stretch' every now and again though.

Suppose they would definitely do you for that. Having no hands on the bars at all.

Actually while we're on it, what about the old 'one-handed paddock-entry-style knee-lean' ? I'm quote fond of that but I suppose that would get you in trouble as well?

Best not be illegal. Cobbled roads round 'ere. And enough speed bumps for a MX race.

Awesome. Thumbs Up made me laugh.

I do it to de-crease the testes now and then, and being a ZXR I gotta do it at any hint of a bump to again protect those all important testes.

Taking that one stage further. The regulations don't even say you have to have a seat fitted to your bike. You have to have securely mounted foot restraints but there is no mention of a seat.

Trials bikes have no seat and have to be fully road legal to participate in a six days trials competition where you ride between stages on the public highway.

That is slanderous,I am not a Police Officer and have never met Stinkwheel!!!

However if I was I would lock him as an obvious menace to society.

I have been pulled for standing on the pedals crossing Waterloo Bridge looking at the view, I explained to the (female copper) it was to allow air to circulate around my neather regions on such a hot day and was allowed to go on my way.

I greenlane and stand up all the time on rights of way, I am positive it's legal. Smile Smile
