Got my first kneedown today (woohoo!) but as I was practising I kept scraping the pegs, to the point where my knee and pegs are scraping the ground at the same time.

Is this just a matter of body position? I'm leaning off as far as I can (i.e. backside not even touching the seat!) and pushing my knee out as far as possible! I could probably get my knee out a bit further if my trousers weren't so tight...

So, any advice?!

Thumbs Up

Bandit 600s don't have very good ground clearance.
However, the usual answer is hanging off more, which will shift the bike a bit more upright. How far off the bike is your upper body? Ideally your body should be inline off the bike - I usually find my body isn't far enough out looking at pictures, despite what it feels like.

Once you've got that, rear sets and possibly stiffer/raised suspension will help.

get the top half of your body out further, try get your head past your wing mirror. then you may want to lean forward abit too.

when i started on the hornet i had the same problem. I wasnt leaning my head out far enough, and as i stuck my knee out i had a tendancy to push myself backwards,
so i started leaning my top half off more, stretching knee out further and leaning forward abit.
works a treat!

god job for the KD! Thumbs Up Very Happy

hope this helps. Carl.

Cheers for the advice, I guess my upper body could lean out further - I was just focusing on getting the lower half out!

As for the ground clearance I suppose that is just something to work around! Thumbs Up

yeah the top half is aparently the hardest bit to get out, because you are hanging on for dear life, and focussing all your attention on your knee.

whilst leant over on a roundabout.. think about the inside of your left elbow and slowly try to straighten your left arm, this will automatically push your body out and you will find that your arse may be able to move out abit more..

hope this helps abit more..

let us know how you get on? Very Happy Thumbs Up

That looks pretty similar to how I'm doing it - your pegs don't look far off the ground there either!!

It's pretty hard to judge how far your upper body is leant out, but I'm sure I can get a bit further!

I'll let you know how I get on Thumbs Up

You have to really exagerrate your movements when it's not familar to you.

When I ride on track it feels like my upper body's off loads, but it's usually just inline with my arse, so not masses off, and not as much as I thought it was.....

then you're making it a LOT harder and uncomfortable for yourself twisting on the bike.

get your head down and kiss the inside mirror.. you'll suddenly find everything a lot smoother and more comfortable.

and you'll be shocked how much more upright the bike becomes too allowing you plenty more lean without the danger of peg grinding
