hey all,

have a GS500E and the front headlight seems to randomly sort of "pulse" now and then between high beam and dip (that or it just gets dimmer). Im not sure if its just because the inidi bulbs are blown on the left hand side or if the alternator is screwed (it does still get a bit brighter when rev'ed). Im not really fussed about it that badly as the bikes rarely used at night...just wondered if its a common GS fault or anything before i started taking things apart to check...

Cheers in advance
Toby

I'd say you have some wires shorting out. Try turning the bars with the lights on to trigger it, also try moving wiring to source the fault.

Mine did that.

Part of it was a problem in the charging system i.e it wasn't charging due to a massively corroded connector. Therefore I guess the light was running straight off the alternator? Or something along those lines.

Have a check see if it's charging ok, make sure the voltage is ok, suspect the reg/rec and connectors made of cheese.

My one was on the right side of the bike towards the front of the seat. I think it was a starter solonoid connector or similar. Just horribly corroded.

Mine also does that.

Mine also has a horribly corroded starter soleniod.

Unfortunatly all of my tools are in a ISO container somewhere, so I can't do anything about it at the moment.
