Anyone provide me with a link with the rules on where you can and can't travel with a vehicle without MOT?

It's been talked about before, not sure if there are any actual rules as such, maybe down to the discretion of the officer involved.
I assume you're looking to take something from one end of the country to the other ? Laughing

Been there, done that. More, take it to a friends house because he has the tools that I don't (welder for one, cant' really balance that on a bike).

I know you should be able to take it to a garage to get it fixed, but can I take it to a friends house to get it fixed? What about the local parts supplier to get bits to replace?

Looking to know "What's allowed", but if it's discretion of the officer, I'll not run the risk.

If it has no MOT then the only reason it should be on the road is to take it to a pre booked MOT.

I *believe* you can take it to a friend's house to be fixed - we looked into this years ago with someone's shitheap bike and the 'place of repair' could be an individual's home, within reason (ie. not too far away, travelling straight there etc).

However, this was about 5 years ago so I'd be hard pushed to give you any proof of what we found.

This ^^, and has to be the most direct route and don't expect leniency if the MOT garage isn't local.

So if it fails it's MOT, how are you supposed to get it repaired?

Call me cynical, but defiantly sounds like the sort of illogical stuff that sounds like law.

Nowhere does it say that the repair place has to be 'proper' garage.

Why not? Considering they're going to be hunting down children you'd think they should be high on the MOT priority list, the way some of them drive I assume they don't need to stick to speed limits either, the hypcritical message of "Mind that child" on the back must be obligatory though.

I think they do need an inspection though on the following points:

Arrow Does it sell rocket lollys?

Arrow Does it play either La Cucarracha or the match of the day theme tune?

Arrow Does the driver look like he's related to the Paedo Bear?

Arrow Is it a Transit with a giant fibreglass '99' glued to the roof?

Arrow does it have chrome hub caps?

I think that covers it.

It's best to actually have a garage write down your registration number in their book at the very least, because you'll need that proof if you get stopped.

I would hope that it goes without saying that you shouldn't take the piss with this: the last thing we need is the government cracking down and insisting that un-MOTed vehicles have to be moved by trailer.

I can beat that, rode the SV from Broadstairs to Lossiemouth for it's prebooked MOT. Passed as well. Wink

Does the 30 day rule means that you can fail the MOT and still be legal to ride the bike to get it repaired or does the fail cancel out the previous MOT?

Your MOT does not cancel out if you bike/car fails so you can still legally drive/ride it unitl that date.

HOWEVER, the fact that the vehicle failed the MOT test means that it does not meet the legal requirements, so you could be prosecuted for using an unroadworthy vehicle.
