I don't think so but I'm not sure.

Class C and D are written off for economic reasons - basically the in-sewer-rats decided that it would cost more to fix (with official parts and labour) than to replace.

Class B cannot be put back on the road but can be broken for spares.

Class A cannot be put back on the road and cannot be broken.

It wont be on a Q plate for a cat D mate, least it shouldn't be.

AFAIK, the bike will only be a Q-plate if the original frame has been defaced or damaged in anyway, which means that the DVLA will need to issue you with a new frame number etc.

Hi

"Q" is for a query plate, where they cannot identify the age of the vehicle. This is basically one where (as Tin says) the frame number has been defaced so cannot be identified, or where a major component has been replaced (like the frame).

Most "Q" plates are probably on either kit cars / bikes, or on bikes that have been stolen some time in the past.

All the best

Keith

How exactly will having the bike as an insurance write off affect the bike (only cosmetic write off, no mechanical faults)? ie, insurance costs more?cant claim on insurance again?

It won't affect the insurance at all if your bike's been written off unless it's on a Q-plate which will often bump your premium up.

An insurance history such as a write-off can affect the resale value of a bike though even if it's fully repaired, my Blade was a Cat C writeoff in 1998.

Will affect the re-sale value as it will be on the register, and people don't necessarily like that.

True, but that won't be a lose, as he is looking at buying a write off thus it will be cheaper to start with Smile

that's why I said "can" affect the resale value Hex, as it won't bother everyone just most people.

A repaired Cat D (using original plastics) is as good as any other used bike IMO, and so are most Cat C's...however, it would probably be best to be a little wary of bodge-job Cat C's as they could be dangerous.

Your (Irdawood) bike should have a V5 (please say that you have a V5) which should state the bike's registration on it.

Hi

Dealers will be reluctant to touch a write off for a part exchange, as will plenty of private buyers.

All the best

It means it could be nicked. Whoever owns the bike should have the V5, and if it was a right off by the insurance company then they should have it. Confused

The V5 is a bit of multicoloured paper that has the details of your bike on it. What's that thing that you mentioned on the top there? ("V5 N")

Yay! My Husky is a cat C, and I have been allowed to keep it!!

So if I get various bits straightened out, do i just need an MOT to get it on the road again?
