You watch the big super bikes doing it on the track but you never really plan to do it on the road yourself, Unless your fcukin crazy)
The Ducati's seem to do it best at the moment, purposely or not, you decide. They go into the corner 'sideways', rear wheel spinning up leaving rubber on the track. You'd think that you got to have a lot of power, speed into the corner(to flick the back around) and control, to pull it off yourself (or is that just me being a "Nancy / Pussy" [to quote McJ and maurice]).
Riding to work the other morning i managed it on my NSR, i was only in first so that blows my theory of needing power, and it was a 90degree left hander so i wasn't going fast.
My rear wheel spun up on the apex and was doing so for a good few meters into the corner. Like a said, i was in first gear, i just put the power down too soon and it almost got away from me.
Anyone seen it or done it for themself on the track or road? Is there and advantage to doing this on the track? you recon it looked good to the few people waiting for the bus + sat at the corner in there cars or will they not have noticed me almost bin my bike. ____________________ Dreams will get you nowhere, a good kick up the arse will take you a long way.

I really, really don't reccomend doing this on the road.
It is very hard to judge exactly how much is to much.
I've had plenty of slides on the road, not all of which have ended with me coming out of the corner.
You'll notice that the GP riders don't tend to do it when leant over lots... it's a lot more benefical and safer when you aren't so leant over.
In theory, I believe, the tyre actually offers more drive when slipping by 4%, it also helps to get you turned quicker.
Remember, though, the racers have crashed many times, trying and not trying to slide. They have a very expensive leathers, no traffic coming the other way and large run off areas.
Generally the point it starts to slide means that you've reached the limit of you and the bike in that situation and shouldn't push it any more.
If you want to mess about with sliding, it's best to go with a mx bike, where it's a lot more controllable and you're not going so fast
I believe some top-level riders are actually trying to learn mx for sliding experience.
125s definatley don't have enough power to slide usefully IMO, because you're going to have to be too leant over or have particulaly bad tyres to do it. |
