Didn't royal enfield make a diesel that could do something daft like 200mpg?
I'm sure there was a review on a magazine/website a couple of years ago, it still pulled like a train towing a half tonne trailer apparently ____________________ It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt, then it's bloody hilarious!!! |

I think I remember reading about this bike a while ago. Isn't it modeled on the KLR650 and has the power of something like a 250 trailie?
Good idea I think but 95mpg isn't that amazing when you can get CG's that'll do 120mpg and 600cc commuters that'll come close at around 65/70mpg. Even my old XJ600 would do 60mpg when I thrashed it and more if you rode it sensibly.
Obviously though I can see why the military would want a diesel bike as it's one less petrol tanker thing they need to take on the field to refuel the vehicles so making everything diesel just makes it easier for them. ____________________ Now: '00 Kawasaki ZRX1100R - Past: '84 Yamaha DT125, '89 Kawasaki KLR600, '97 Yamaha XJ600N

Shit bike
Shit idea
Diesel in the early 90's was described as 'better' and cheaper to make than petrol.
So what happend since that time? Technology de-volved and its now harder to make therefore more expensive than unleaded?
Diesel sucks

...but remember, that's only your opinion.
At the moment diesel is at the same price, or in some areas even cheaper, than your standard unleaded petrol.
So cost of manufacture doesn't appear to be an issue (the profiteering of the oil companies cartel is another one though).
An actual by product of diesel production is LPG that can be used for car engines (was someone developing a bike also - high pressure tank sounds dodgy on a bike).
Anyhow, with that carbon offset it makes diesel sort of green (or greener), not what you'd expect from those who say it's dirty and polluting.
For the likes of the army having a one fuel vehicle fleet makes sense. Hence why they've been interested in diesel bikes for years.
For ordinary people a high torque highly economical bike would also make sense. Sadly most I've seen (apart from the military/motad looking eva & hdt) have been cruiser style. That's not for everyone.
As I've said before I'm surprised the likes of Honda haven't developed/adapted one for something like the Goldwing. Lazy touring, loads of torque, loads of miles between refills, go anywhere wrt fuel. Sounds ideal ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

I almost bought a UK MOD prototype of that bike last year, came up at 2K and really couldn't warrant that amount at the time.
I will probably get one if I see one come up again. ____________________ Current: Suzuki RG 125 Gamma, Honda H100, Triumph Tiger 800XC, Suzuki SV650 (minitwin) |
