I was parking up at a supermarket when some guy on a 125 x8 scooter with just one L at the back comes up to me and starts lecturing me on bike safety.

Apparently he is impressed with my jacket (protection wise) but thinks i should have better protection on than jeans. Then he starts talking about biking like he is the holy grail.

Now i'm not saying i'm an expert, i've only been riding 3.5 years myself but the last thing i want is someone with less than a years experience on just a CBT giving me a lecture and trying to tell me about how to ride. I wouldn't do it to anyone, nevermind someone with more experience than me.

Why did you humor him, instead of just walking away??

Also if he wound you up so much, why didn't you respond?

I had similar recently. I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt with no gloves; would have told them wear to go, pointing out that I had been overtaken by cyclists wearing less than I was (boots and a helmet.)
But he'd just got out of a car with flashing light on... letter will be in the post, however.

I am fully aware of the exact risk I'm taking and I do alter my riding based upon that. I suspect many, though, don't on either of those points.

Best reply is, 'sorry Dad, won't do it again', smile and walk away.

That will then make you smile and forget to feel cross because it's funny, will probably make him snarl because you called him your Dad (which will be especially funny if he's younger).

Also works with the Mum word too. Thumbs Up

I didn't fancy being funny with him as i walked into the supermarket, and left my bike next to him so humored him.

I have to say he looked a bit overdressed for a scooter rider though, with leather gear Razz

Please don't get me started. Ultimate Warrior is a DUDE!

I once did my impersonation of him when a chav kicked off with me. Needless to say he backed of looking confused.

Nothing makes me chuckle more then a power ranger on a moped Very Happy

When he said jeans were unsafe you should have said "Oh, Sorry mate i didnt realise" then taken your jeans off and given them to him and walk into the shop - you would loose your jeans, possibly even some spare change, bike keys, phone ect but would have been worth it to see his face Razz
