Speed cameras

Not strictly bike related but these cameras have been put up recently near where I live and I was wondering..

They have no lines on the ground in front of them and until tonight I'd never seen them flash.

A BMW came the other way as me and as he went through I saw it flash 4/5 times out of a tiny little opening and that's it.

I checked the camera for markings, none.

I was thinking they might be paired or piezoelectric but the opening/black strip makes me think radar, I'm not sure, any insights?

Looks like a digital truvelo.They don`t need the usual white-stripe road markings to judge speed/distance coz they`re activated by some sensors in the road.
Should be 2-3 white lines very close to the box though......is there?

I think for egal reasons two froms of evidence are required for successful convicton. The calibrated camera and the corroboration of the calculation of distance travelled over a recorded time interval. Time it takes to pass the lines.
Police use this in 'Measured Mile' speed calculation.
The Big white squares on some stretches of road may do the same thing.
Anyway they make money.
