Specifically the Daytona 600 and 675, anything I should know in terms of reliability or things to look for when I am out looking at them other than the obvious?

Also, to anyone that has one or has ridden one, are they a nice ride?

I'm tempted towards them due to the cheap insurance for me compared to other 600s but if they have issues I won't bother.

Thanks. Thumbs Up

For the 675 -

Earlier models use oil, not a problem, just check fairly frequently and top up

Have heard of problems with can chain rattles.

Alternators occasionally go.

That's about all the problems I know of, everything else is just the normal stuff to look for.

If you can afford the 675 you'll love it. The triple has the lower down grunt which is very handy on the road, you can take mini roundabouts in 2/3rd, whereas my brother that has a Daytona 600 has to drop to first to have power coming out of the corner.

There's forums for both types of Daytona, just google them and you will find out all the info you would ever need!

The only 650s I can seem to find are only just out of the price range of a 675 which as in the above post are more practical on the road and sound/look much better.

If one came along at the right price then yeah I'd consider it. Thumbs Up

I got mine for £3,200 (mid winter, 11,000 miles) but mechanically and cosmetically fine, just gotta keep an eye out!

If your used to sportsbikes it's not much worse than the rest, I've done some pretty long journeys/tours and it's been fine!

I've ridden the 650 and the 675 and tbh I found the 650 considerably better on the road than the 675. Don't get me wrong the engine in the 675 is fan-bloody-tastic but the riding position is just plain wrong for anything other than a track. Just a personal opinion but thats all I can offer. Cool

I have a Speed Four which is the naked version of the old bike. It has awesome handling, they can have a dodgy fueling low down 3k revs but I never spend time at that part of the rev range.

Whoring time,

Mmkay, well I ride an RS50 which is a semi-sporty position I guess I'll just have to sit on all three and see what is best.

The main reason for the Triumph is the insurance anyway, a GSXR600/ZX6R/CBR600RR is about £3.3k a year, whereas the Daytona 600 is £1.1k, which is manageable, £1.75k for the 675.

Fastgut, would you say the engine in the 600/650 makes that much a difference to the overall riding compared to the 675?

Chris-red, do they do that Akrapovic for the Daytona 600?

1.) Ring more insurance companies.

2.) The Speed four, TT600, Daytona 600 and Daytona 650 are all effectively the same bike with different clothes, therefore that Akrapovic will fit any of them.

Well you can definitely be lazier on the 675 for certain. Its got a much sharper bottom end by comparison too. You will use the gearbox more on the 600/650 but balance that out with an easier riding position and a slightly more friendly experience day to day. Horses for courses really.

I take it you'll be on restriction? WIll you actually be restricting?

If you're into modding, it would be alot cheaper on the 600/650 than a 675.

If your planning on doing alot of long journeys/motorways then the 600/650 is better.

If you are hooning/trackdays the 675 is better.

I commute 30 odd miles a day on my 675 with supercorsas Laughing and it is fine, I don't find the bike uncomfortable anymore unless I'm on it for longer than an hour.

Try and get a test on both, as they are very different bikes!

They are only allowed to sell motorcycles under the Norton name in the states. The name is owned by some american businessman. Norton as we knew it is long gone and beyond salvaging.

CCM on the other hand are indeed British.

AJS are chinese now.

The rights have been bought back, they have a factory and are finalising specs for new bike production. They'll be at the TT with their rotary this year. Cool

Well, I'll believe it when I see it. And the Wankel is as good as dead as a road engine because its about as dirty as your average large bore two stroke.

It will never be on the road either has running them with a cat means the engine overheats to easily

The Daytona 600/650/TT600/Speed Four/Bandit 1200 (pre 02)/ZX4/6/7/9R (Around 2001 models) and the RF600/900 all share the same can.

If the can is a 3 bolt from one of these bikes it will fit.

They arent using the rotary on their road bikes and Michael Dunlop is riding their machine at the TT. Cool

Queue lots of technical explanations on here lol. Google is your best bet. Just pop in rotary engine and look for a pic as its probably easier doing it that way than writing several hundred words in explanation Cool

edit, theres a linky for you
