I seemed to have gotten into watching films a lot lately but I have a particular taste for films about music/bands/that uses music as a main theme throughout etc. Can anyone recommend any that I may have missed, here's the ones I can remember seeing off the top of my head:

Blues Brothers (how many legends in one film?!?)
Blues Brothers 2000
Still Crazy
This Is Spinal Tap
A Mighty Wind
Almost Famous
Rock School
School of Rock
Drumline
Rockstar
The Year That Punk Broke
Music and Lyrics
Freaky Friday (ha ha, ok well maybe not...!)

I've probably forgotten a few but I'm sure they'll come back to me if anyone suggests them.

I can't say I really fancy watching High School Musical or that one with the Jonas Brothers in or that new disney one they just released that's being advertised on TV, as you can probably tell form that list I'm more into the rockier side of things but I'll watch pretty much anything.

I know there's a film about the Doors that someone said they were going to lend me at some point so that should be cool, any films about actual bands would be good aswell but not stuff like "xxxxx Live At xxxxx".

I can't be bothered with films that are in black and white or foreign films with subtitles either.

That'll be the Day and Stardust spring to mind.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shine_(film) not rock/pop like the rest but still a very worthy film.

Ok, these are non fictional, but classics all the same...

Woodstock
The Kids are Alright

Quadrophenia is a Who thing as well, although music is only one of the themes.

You listed all the ones that I knew, and some I didn't. Almost Famous is such an excellent film. Cool

Blues Brothers goes without saying.

Oh and of course, the buddy holly story, although i've yet to see the film (seen the stage show three times, however, and it rocks).

Or there's Flame, which starred Slade, and from about the same era if you can find it one called "You're Never To Young To Rock" which had Mud, the Gitterband (without Gary) and the Rubettes.

I just remembered about That Thing You Do!, I think I've seen Stardust after looking it up and I don't know how I forgot Quadraphenia! I also just remembered about Garage Days (bit crap) and G:MT Greenwich Mean Time aswell. Also Crossroads (NOT the Britney Spears version) is amazing, it's all about selling your soul to the devil and beating Steve Vai in a guitar battle on a beat up old Telecaster Cool

I will most definitely check the others out, The Who are amazing so Tommy is going to be a must I reckon Smile

You could also check out "Phantom of the Paradise" which isn't about a band but has a sort of rock-y theme and is very very funny.........

Oh.My.Fucking.God.
Shocked

I had such a crush for years and years, on Paul Williams, who has a really cool funky singing voice ... until I saw that film, and discovered he was practically a dwarf Mr. Green

Rock and Roll High School has the Ramones in it, and The Filth and the Fury has lots of naughty swearing!

And Breaking Glass is worth a couple of hours of anyone's life........

24 Hour Party People, It's all about the madchester scene, Happy Mondays, Joy Division etc. It's got Steve coogan in it and is really funny.

Blues brothers is probably one of my favourite films of all time.

bit of a chick flick but...

August Rush
stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers (coach in Bend It Like Beckham) and Robin Williams who I always find hilarious
it is more classical music for the most part but a great film

I shall be watching it again WHEN my friend sees fit to return it Rolling Eyes
