There's something strange about this forum in that what seems to be a large majority of the ex-ZX6R F3 owners progress on to a 929 'Blade.
Well fate obviously didn't want to buck this trend, and I picked this up yesterday:
https://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a312/ilikeforks/SDC10624.jpg
https://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a312/ilikeforks/SDC10626.jpg

It's a 2001 bike and has all manner of subtle mods done to it such as the flush mount indicators and the clear brake light cover, undertray, etc. Not so subtle is the Datatool alarm on it which has a movement sensor and resets itself after 30 seconds. It's taking quite a while to get used to. I keep having to poke the bike to check what mode I'm in. If it beeps at me I'd better stop soon or it'll pierce my ear drums... again. Petrol stations are certainly interesting for this. Can you tell I've never had an alarm before?
Anyway...
HOLY CRAP, IT'S AWESOME!
It handles telepathically, the brakes are shit hot, the suspension is fantastic, the power delivery is smooth and it makes this lovely little.... closing noise when you shut off the throttle. It has that typical Honda whine to it. Something to do with the cams? The clutch is a bit weird, the bite point is massive, but it clunks into 1st really satisfactorily. I can actually flat foot it comfortably and it is light as a feather. It weighs less than the F3 and filling it up to the brim makes no difference.
The rider position is a bit more extreme so I'm having to get used to those sensations again, mainly on the wrists and especially on my neck as I tend to wear hoodies when I ride and the hood pushes against my head as I'm holding my head up a bit more than usual.
I bought it off a guy who works in our local bike shop. He was absolutely gutted to see it go. He was proper torn up, but the reason for sale was that he wanted an R1, which he had bought, and was proper nice. So I hope he doesn't miss the 'Blade too much.
Anyway, yeah just wanted to share this with you. I'll hopefully get some more interesting pics up soon. Thanks for looking. ____________________ The tiger who came for a pint |

Haha, you've been following me about haven't ya Steph? Wanna Fuck?
If you're planning in changing cans, PCIII definitely makes a difference. Sorts out fuel consumption too. On motorways, I'm usually getting 135 before I hit the reserve light doing 85-95 gettind down to 100 on very quick blasts. Clear lens tidies it up nicely too.
They're bloody good bargains and very capable bikes. You can manage to hide madeline mccann in the underseat storage lol!
Honda rattles are often camchain tensioner during the cold starts, but clears away when warm. On a standard can, the engine likes to chime and whine from the vavles, it's a typical honda sound. Get any ebay can on it since my mates found the standard can TOO quiet... and so did my neighbours lol! They never notice me come home and I had a few cars pull out.
HID bulbs will fit nicely for 30 quid and make all the difference at night!
I sometimes wish I still had my ZX6R since it was a brute and I loved muscling it. But I REALLY do want to track the blade since there's a lot more to learn from the bike.
Glad you like it.... if u have a n00b drop, be thankful for the sliders! ____________________ The Tot 2019 Z1000SX - 2007 R1

Ah I thought you'd never ask Titz, it's been getting expensive!
The lack of noise is really the only reason I'd change the can as the bike sounds surprisingly alright with the standard lump on. There are a few battered old cans on eBay atm but none are really jumping out at me so I'm gonna hang on for the time being.
And OMG the underseat storage is... it's like a cavern, I feel Madelaine McCann probably got lost under the seat of a 929 and couldn't ever find her way back out again. In mine atm is the original toolkit and a tiny little numberplate which looks the dog's but my riding unfortunately doesn't quite warrant it just yet.
I'm thinking about the HIDs, although the standards were lighting up the road infront of Matt's ZX7R better than his own bike and I was following from behind. Mind you, I'm not doing so much night riding cos it doesn't get dark til quite late and even then it's not that dark so, we'll see... a possible mod for the future.
The bike came with the single seat sort of lid thing so I'm gonna see about changing that after everyone's had their pillion rides cos they all want a go on it aswell.
I went for a bit of a ride earlier and I'm finding it definitely doesn't like going slow. Slow riding in traffic through town.... it felt like, in 1st it felt a bit snatchy despite smooth input and in 2nd it felt bogged down so, I dunno, I know that I'm not quite used to the bike just yet so it might just be me but in this instance, it's been the most hard work to ride slowly in my experience.
I love it to bits though. I will miss the 600, it's going up on eBay soon. It's round a mate's house atm cos we can't fit 3 bikes in the garage and when I was riding it up there, I was like.... Do I really wanna sell this, it's awesome. So yeah, it was a good little thing. But I'm (stupidly) taking the Blade round Mallory next month so, that should be fun!
I hope I don't come off! ____________________ The tiger who came for a pint |

Sorry to be a pedant, maybe I'll missing something but that hasn't got flush indicators.

These are flush indicators. Notice how they are almost flush with the fairing. Your ones stick out.
I'll crawl back under my rock now, Nice bike, get a can for it. ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.

You utter fucking bastards. STOP making me regret not getting one!
Why did I just spend £1600 on a peice of shit Ford Ka....
I will have a 929! Maybe not this year or next, but I will have one! (So don't buy all the good ones!)
EDIT: The gold wheels look ok, not quite to my own tastes, but each their own... But what's going on with the light gold rearsets and pillion pegs?! If you need me I'll be sulking over here, without a 929. ____________________

Going price on BikeTrader seems to be about £3700~ish.
Saw one on there last night for about that, with less than 5k miles on it! Everything on it was standard, it looked mint. ____________________

FWIW i payed £3200 for my RRY model, had 4500 miles on the clock when i bought it in February. It's the navy and silver paint scheme.
Few tiny chips on the tank etc so it wasn't mint really |

Jesus, someone I know just paid about £3600 I think for a 929 Blade. The prices above are shocking, they've been fetching between £2000-3000 max for nearly 5 years now for nice low mileage ones. I only paid £3k for a '99 Blade 3.5years ago! and I went for a middle priced one... were loads of 929 blades in the 2-2750 bracket back then but I didn't want one, 929s have always been low priced because they're not as popular as the 918 or the 954, was a stopgap. For £3k you should be looking at a mint, low mileage 954 |

Just found out yesterday when cleaning the bike that it has a Showa rear shock fitted!
So all in all it has:
Showa rear suspension
Datatool alarm
Undertray
LED indies
Clear rear brake lense
Seat cowl
Braided lines all round
Crash bungs
K&N air filter
Full service inc. engine only just been done.
All I really 'need' is a can or full system depending on budget and some sort of chain lube device. Was thinking about the ones Titz linked on his Blade post but a quick look on eBay sees Scottoilers at only 70 quid so I'm not sure. I'd like a Scottoiler but don't fancy the bulk in having it sitting under the rear seat; I wouldn't want to knock it trying to put stuff in there.
The bike was gonna go up for 3200 on the shop floor.
Got some more pics in my new leathers:

It sucks cos I haven't done my driving test yet, or indeed any lessons, so my stalking session comes to an end in this respect.
It's my Matt's sister's car but between you and me, it's mine OK.
On an aside, I gave her a pillion ride yesterday. It was very lesbian but she enjoyed it and I'm impressed with the Blade's nonchalant attitude towards passengers. ____________________ The tiger who came for a pint |

I went from an F ZX6R to a blade too (well, via a few more ZX6Rs, two supermotos and a couple of Nakeds)...the 929 was the best bike I've ever owned (just sold it, but regretting it lots ).
I got used to the fueling, even grew to love it in the end!
