Today has been a remarkably good day at work, only a 4-10 on a very sunny day and I was only 3 minutes late,
which is good by my standards Cool There was also an unusually high level of truly jaw dropping talent coming through the door...
got asked out as well which was cool.
Had a nice chat with my manager and just before she left she told me that the phone lines and card terminal had been down
but she thought she had sorted it... "damn" I said, "wouldn't mind a day without the hassles of of tendering credit",
after a few failed top ups and the terminal failing to dial to the bank I realised that my wish had come true.

So without hesitation I wrote out some signs and posted one by the doorway and one on the back of the til monitor.

Knowing full well what a bunch of facktards some of our customers can be I tried to make the signs as big and obvious as possible,
with the shop door open all day I tried to position them right in central view.

For the next 3 hours all was well and much cold harsh cash went through my hands, that I like...
but I was starting to get annoyed at the fact that I was constantly having to explain to customers that we couldn't accept cards,
despite the two signs being there.
One women even replied with "It's alright, I have VISA"

Went I got back to the shop at 8 I decided to have a laugh and post this on the counter, as a final blow to all those that are so ignorant of their surroundings.

A few customers still tried to pay by card, a few even failing to notice the sign underneath their noses and one
(mothers allways hav'em) even attempting to pay by card even after reading that sign,
only to give me a very bemused look when I explained. Brick Wall

In all it mostly provided a bit of entertainment for the curious customers,
it did gain me one or two sour looks and even a "sorry" from a regular Scottish customer,
who then moped out unable to pay,
I felt a little bit guilty about him because he is a well manored and pleasant guy who is no hassle at all.

The real Irony is though, in literally an uninterrupted sequence,
the next four customers to walk into my shop all wore glasses and were the among the only people to read the sign on the back of the til.

You'll probably find it is mainly down to the fact that shops frequently have signs such as these relating to matters ranging from "please donate your pennies to such and such" to "no unsupervised children" etc frequently in the middle of the door or stuck to the til and as such you rarely take notice of them as you don't assume it's anything new and important.

The bad tempered one at the end, while you may find funny, others probably won't including your manager so you might want to scrap it incase anyone decides to inform your manager one day (or you forget to remove it and it gets seen).

I do realise that, I just think it's a shame how people don't notice the little things, especially in this situation when it just makes hassle for me.. It's a joke more than anything.

Okay...I am puzzled now...(I am observant)...but here goes...
I work in a print & photocopying shop, and have to bite my sarcastic tongue when people come in and ask if we do photocopying... Rolling Eyes

Diddums, people coming into the shop aren't considerate enough to read your signs.

Can you cover up the sign in the window that has the logos of the various credit card companies? It's the only one I look for, handwritten signs are about keeping children on a leash, products I don't want to buy, or random pointless services.

Also, if I read the sign I'd still ask. I don't expect an average threshers employee to take the sign down when the machine is fixed.

Just thought I'd point this out. On your second sign it clearly states CREDIT cards.(They may have missed the first sign, but I would have thought you could have made the signs consistant)

Implying that you can still process debit cards. Credit and debit cards are two different types.

I don't think the customer is at fault for still asking if they can use a debit card(which the vast majority of people do)

Speaking from the customer's point of view...

As far as I am concerned, Thresher's is a shop that sells booze. It shouldn't do stuff like top ups etc etc etc. Even in the Coop (which you will be aware, is a general store.) I quietly seethe when some old fart/single mum/spotty drug addict produces all their top up cards because you just know the store only has dial up so you're going to held up for, literally minutes while this social dreg pays all its utility bills!

I rarely pay by card because that is what CASH is for. Equally annoying: "Hi, can I have a packet of cigarette papers?" "Certainly..." "Eh, do you take Solo?" People like this should be taken away for re-education...

Grrrr! Evil or Very Mad

Also, (Oh no, I'm on a role...) People who pay by card, then ask for cash back thus holding everyone up, when there's a cash machine outside. Especially when all they're buying is chewing gum, the fuckers.

I am clearly not your "average threshers employee".
So you'd still ask despite the actual terminal being tucked behind the counter and not in the usual place so that it can't be seen?
I had one customer point her card at me and actually scan the counter area for the machine... which wasn't there Laughing

I realised this immediately so I should take the blame for that one, it was only the one customer who chose to be this anal though.
But fair point.

Exactly, peoples ignorance is astounding... It actually enrages me just thinking about the way that people rely on that silly bit of plastic to do everything, most common line I hear before a customer produces a card is "oh I hope the payment goes through, could be overdrawn".
The most people don't have a clue what they're spending, but they're addicted to buying crap all the time. "oooh look, shiny! Must can has!".

What I find most annoying about how people don't notice the signs is I find it relates to the way they go about their lives, when we had the Pay Point Machine installed I was dead against it, it's evil... it promotes complacency, everything there just at the touch of a button... a customer can just walk in and manage half of their so called life on this one machine.
People are becoming dangerously lazy, the fact that they don't notice the little changes around the shop, and I mean customers will ask me how much "four 440ml cans of stella is" when it's labeled right in front of they're fucking eyes Evil or Very Mad

What it suggests to me is that people don't notice the little things in life anymore, the nice things, therefor life is less pleasurable and what is the point? People are slowly losing all control of their lives and totally though their own admission, yet they're to dumb to even recognise this.
Society is being conditioned into a flock that eats, sleeps, shits, fucks, breeds, works, but most importantly PAYS, CONSUMES and doesn't ask.
Diddums indeed, it's fucking sickening.
