What is the differences between the standard mille, the mille R and the mille SP.

I have seen an SP in good condition ( V reg, 12,000 miles) for what seems a reasonable price, just wondered if its worth getting above the standard mille or the R.

RSV Mille R

The RSV Mille R is a lighter, higher spec. version of the standard Mille with Öhlins suspension, Öhlins steering damper, forged aluminum wheels, carbon fiber body parts and a shorter subframe for one person use only (no passenger seat).

[edit] RSV Mille SP

The SP stands for Sport Production and this version was made as a homologation special for the Superbike World Championship. Only 150 motorcycles, the minimum requirement to homologate the model for Superbike World Championship, were manufactured in 1999. It uses a special short-stroke version of the 60-degree V-twin engine, developed in collaboration with Cosworth.

If it is a genuine SP you will be paying a premium for the exclusivity and parts will be silly expensive. I have seen them from £6,000 for a crashed damaged one all the way up to £15,000 for a mint one! New they were £22,000!!!

Looks like a base model to me, and an expensive one at that.

You can get the second generation 00-02 mille for that money.

It's got the SP fairing which itself would cost a bomb, but from the looks of it underneath it's just a Mille, I believe the SP had the gold Ohlins forks?

Twin stack exhaust is the easiest way to spot them, but yes I think they had gold forks.

Not convinced that's an SP fairing, just SP stickers to me. Check the lettering. The white border doesn't look big enough on SP to me.

I would agree.

Looks tatty, the front disks are rusty.

Not 100% sure, but they could be PFM iron disks? The centres look right....(EDIT, ignore that, PFM iron disks don't have vent holes on the disk surface)

I would say it's still pretty tatty though, look at the state of the rear caliper!
