Anyone els get them?
I have played allot of rugby, hockey, tennis and football over the last 10 years. In the last 12 months I have started to get shin splints, they can be ridiculously painful! Since having most the summer off from playing sports they have pretty much gone, in the last month I have started pre season training and although it has not started yet I feel it is only a matter of time !
Any advice from anyone else who also suffers from it would be appreciated ____________________ Honda SFX50 > Aprilia SR125 > Aprilia RS125 > Honda RFV400 > K4 GSXR600 > KTM Duke > C1H 636 > K3 GSXR1000 > Aprilia RSV-R > Triumph Street Triple R > Ducati 899 Panigale > Aprilia Tuono 1100 > Triumph Daytona 675R > KTM SuperDuke 1290 2.0 |

Gel insoles and try to avoid running on tarmac.
Used to get loads of people with shinsplints when I was in the TA due to running about in boots on hard surfaces. The shock-absorbing gel insoles were very popular.
Or go to a proper sports shop for advice on which trainers to buy (ie not JB sports, a proper sports shop). They ought to be assessing your gait, how your foot lands when you run etc. Tell them which sports you are doing and about your shin splints and they will advise accordingly. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. I used to play football and basketball a couple of times a week, as well as going running and I developed shin splints. I cut back a bit, but it'd always come back when I resumed. At one stage it hurt just to walk; it can be fucking painful.
Anyway, I've never really got rid of it. I play football once a week and that's fine, but I started running every morning recently and it soon came back (and this is after about three years). I recognised the pain early enough and stopped, but the legs were still sore for several weeks.
Other than that, I agree with Stinkwheel. |

Not sure if it's something that you end up growing out of, as I used to suffer very badly when I was in my early twenties and teaching aerobics for a couple of hours each night. The floor was sprung but essentially a hard wooden floor and our shoes weren't really very hi-tech. Got so bad I couldn't walk down stairs in the morning, used to have to sit down I didn't have much choice so just carried on and found that it eased a bit once I started again each evening. I was told to drink tonic water for the quinine, but have no idea whether that was fact or fiction (suspect the latter).
Since then I've carried on exercising but with the running I always go to a specialist shop for fitting advice and try wherever possible not to run on pavement, just tracks or grass. Strangely I've never had it since - hence not knowing whether it's because what I now do is less intense or because I've grown out of it. ____________________ 'The core of a man's spirit comes from new experiences'
