Need advice from people with jobs on/close to minimum wage.

This year I learn't to drive. I paid for my car myself from insurance compensation when someone knocked me off my bike, which resulted in a broken arm etc. I was really glad of it.
I also paid for my own insurance from a mixture of money I had saved up and money from selling my bike.

But it's time to earn my own money. I am at college 5 days a week and have been trying to get a job since March. But at the moment, no one wants to take on someone for weekends and after 4 shifts, so I'm in a crisis.

Next year, I don't know how I'm gonna afford to pay for my insurance, as well as petrol and otherstuff. I know this seems petty considering what some people are going through at the moment, but I'd appreciate any advice. I would like to know how others in a similar situation are coping and what they are earning a month (I know thats a bit cheeky ).

Harass places like Dominoes/Pubs/Blockbuster

They would like people to do the shifts you mention, then try and get any overtime you can when you are in the jobs.

The best way to do it is to work out all your 'must' haves, petrol, food, rent, etc. Then see what is spare, and make you you try as hard as you can to stick to it!

IIf you owe on credit cards/loans, prioritise those and get them out of your way!

See I haven't really tried places like what you said. Not sure why either

I have handed out CV's to most big retailers and supermarkets but never get a reply. I couldn't waiter at a restaurant, I'm too clumsy. I could prob work behind the bar though.
After the 'big think' today, I'm going on a massive job hunt tomorrow. I've printed off 12 CV's tonight, with cover letters. So wish me luck

Just a tip, cover letters are better recieved in written form, they can see you're not a complete numpty and actually spell and use the English language then...

Unless you have done that and not printed them off as I understood from above...

I'm 18 and go college 3 days a week 9-5, weds, thurs, fri.
I work 5 days a week at my local Morrisons, just shelf filling. 14 hours a week on £6 p/h, and 6 hours on £9 p/h (sunday time and a half). Usually get about 500 odd a month.
Work 7am-1 on sunday, 5-9 monday tuesday and 6-9 thurs fri.

Its easy work, but a pain in the ass driving back and forth all the time and quite tireing after doing a day at college.

hiya mate i go college 3 full days a week, and i work Monday - Friday at UPS in Leyland from 9:30pm till usually around 2:30 am

this gives me free time in the day, time that could be spent ragging the arse off the bike while its sunny and the roads are quiet

they pay quite good £9 + an hour and regular pay rises, good work for students, just get your head down and graft like fuck loading trucks, you don't need to go to the gym either after a shift there.

i think they may be recruiting again soon so try the website they have places all over the place and different shifts available too
