i'm swapping my stock suzuki bandit 600 exhaust for a new can i've just bought, i'm having major trouble getting the old clamp off where the pipe joins under the engine (i have a new seal and clamp to replace it with), the bolt has rusted up a bit and refuses to unscrew/tighten from the nut.

i have managed to wiggle the old exhaust off, have new link pipe and clamps etc to attach it but it seems the old clamp is rusted on there a bit.

any tips for getting it off? i've tried spraying it with wd40 then gently hitting it with a hammer to 'persuade' it to come off but it still wont budge. it would be easier to get it off if i could lie the bike on its side but that too is a bit of a pain in the bum!

i thought about just putting the new link pipe into it but can't tighten up the old bolt! it looks pretty rank down there so i need to get the new one on there ideally.

help! Very Happy

ok so i got the little sod off in the end, didnt need to heat it after all kungfupoodle! good idea though....

i managed it with more hammering and yanking basically. you can see the chunk missing which kinda fused itself to the pipe underneath:

but now i have a few probs with the new exhaust! if anyone can give me some pointers that would be grand, as i am sadly a total newbie with this sort of stuff...

i put the new link pipe in, couldnt get the old seal out so just tightened the new clamp around it. seems pretty solid, no wiggling around in there anyway:

i've tightned up the clamp between the can and link pipe, almost to its full extent (i need a different spanner to get it tight as possible) and yet the can isnt on there very tight. it can still be pulled off! any pointers?:

also the holding band isn't exactly snug, the can has a bit of room to move around in there... any tips?:

otherwise it looks pretty sound... just dont want it flying off down the road when i'm hammering along the motorway Smile

thanks guys any pointers on whether this is a good enough job would be appreciated!!

Perhaps the can/link pipe clamp just needs pinching up with the right spanner?

You've but the band on slightly wrong... you want to bolt them both on the inside of the exhaust mount rather than try and bolt one each side of it Thumbs Up

yup i need to get a 11mm spanner tomorrow, my socket isn't deep enough to tighten it all the way and my adjustable spanner just slips off...... hopefully this will sort the problem! i just thought it would tighten up quicker than having to tighten the bolt all the way.

thanks for the advice kfp, i'll change the band tomorrow... this is the sort of thing i would never have though of y'see Smile
