I'm not an electrically minded person, I'm more mechanical to be honest, but think I've figured out my problem.

I put a new ignition barrel in this afternoon, and started the bike up, the neutral light and oil light come on when in neutral but only when the main lights are on.

I waited til it got dark because any fading/pulsing would be more apparent than in half light. I noticed that at 2.5k revs the lights are very bright, but as soon as the revs go up past 3k they go dim. I'm guessing that I've blown the fuse but cant check atm (its dark and the bike isnt in the shed) I don't have a multimeter to check the battery either. So could anyone give me an idea of what it could be?

This is pretty much the last thing stopping me from getting it MOT'd =/

Sounds a bit like the battery has become disconnected, so, yes, blown fuse is a prime candidate.
