do you agree with these guides?

How to mix render

How to render a wall?

what the feck is this lime stuff? can i get it in B&Q?

i asked my dad about rendering and he's just used sharp sand, cement and yellow sand oh and water to mix. and never had problems.

what are other peoples opinions on doing this? it's only an old wall between my house and my neighbours which i'd like to tidy up so nothing that matters if i feck it up.

Rendering is a great way for damp to travel, I think the lime has some significance to this issue i.e. prevents it. Something to do with moisture absorbing properties or something though don't quote me on that.

I had to spend many miserable hours chipping offthe bottom foot of render from my house after I moved in as the muppets who applied it had bridged the damp course with the render, this basically destroyed my kitchen along one wall.

So, just don't bridge the damp course and there isn't a lot to go wrong, although I think rendering looks shite compared to brick work, much like the way I despise pebble dash, but this is just my opinion.

this wall isn't part of my house, it a dividing wall which i think is a remanent of an old out house so moisture in a damp sense isn't a problem
