Fairings.

Hi everyone. I am new on here.

Yesterday evening something terrible happened to me!!

I went for a ride on my gorgeous 2001 NSR 125 R and it started to absolutely piss it down...so i was riding steadily and not only because i was in the middle of town. But basically i was behind an old high top van which tail gating an old series 3 land rover...the LR decided to pull into a petrol station, the van driver didnt see it till late, slammed on his brakes and so i had to brake fairly sharpish....and the bike just slid along road surface because of the semi slicks and it was bloody wet from the stupidly heavy rain we were geting at the time and slippery as some petrol or oil or something was spilt there and i went under the van and the front of my bike is smashed up and my knee got crushed between the bike and the corner of the bumper...luckily i was wearing my Kevlar armoured trousers and jacket and everything else!!! So i'm now missing out on shed loads of work (i am a farmer) and am suffering from uite bad wiplash and a sore and bruised knee

So does anyone know where i can get a decent complete set of aftermarket fairings for the bike? I called up Honda and they quoted me prices ranging from £60 - £130 on individual pieces!!

Also can someone tell me if i was to get a proper performance exhaust for it...what notch will i need to rejet the carb to?

Would be a nice cheap option until, as said above, some turn up at a reasonable price on ebay

Hello, Welcome to BCF.

I'd try Ebay for replacement fairing it will be the cheapest option if you want it looking nice again without bodging.

Thank you for your suggestions...i live about 30 miles down the road from David Silver spares in Leiston, Suffolk...and he orders direct from Honda so pricing is the same. Thanks for helping.

The cable ties and duck tape always fix everything! haha. But i'm not sure they'll last very long!

And i am checking Ebay every single day looking for spares for the nsr...whenever i get some spare cash i'll go out and buy a spare for it...even if not needed just so if it does go i'll have one in stock and ready to fix.

Also i went to start it this morning and the thing wouldnt even turn over...no noise from the starter motor....what could this be down to do you think? Or is it one of those where it could be anything?

I've been speaking to the bloke who's van it was and he said to me that he wouldnt claim against me as there wasn't particularly any damage to his van but i am welcome to put a claim in for his...however isn't it the way where if you go into the back of someone no matter whether it is your fault or the other parties....the insurance company will find and claim you at fault and not pay out?
So is it worth it really?

I thinking maybe just street fightering it might be the way forward at the moment as am looking at doing my test sometime in the next year and it probably wouldnt pay for me to get it all back to original again.

Sorry so log and to be a nuisance with all the questions and waffling...but you lot know more than i do and i'm keen to learn

Insurance is a bad idea; you would most likely lose out.

It is better to pay what little possible and get it original; nobody wants to buy a shit crashed moped that's been fightered so they go for far less meaning you make a bigger loss.

Don't go and buy every part you can so there's spares; buy the most common things to break or that are vulnerable.

Is the battery dead? Are the electrics ok? What state is the bike in now?

Yeah i have said there isn't any point about the insurance because i'll end up paying out what i reckon i could repair the bike for.

Yeah...i just desperately need to get it back on the road as i work about 40 miles away from my home and i farm...so i'm missing out on loads of work and money from harvesting!
I think i'll fighter it for now...then get all the plastics when i can afford them and have paid my dad back for the bike
I was thinking about getting a custom respray done in the new Bmw M3 white...i know everyone hates Beemer drivers on here and i am ashamed to admit that my dad is one....i'm always having a go at him for how he drives in regards to bikers though!!

Yeah that is what i am generally doing. I think i am going to invest in some crash bobbins incase the worse happens again.

Battery should be fine, unless they lose charge after a crash? I haven't really had that great a look over the bike...i've taken a run over to it every morning now and had quick checked over...the frame and forks look fine...just the headlight, fairing and speedo/gauges are smashed in. So hopefully it's just that.
