I thought the RAC/AA were looking at these a few years ago?

Wizzzard, I reckon they could easily pull a car Wink . I think the idea was to use them just to get you off the road where you would have to wait for a big 'un to come along and take you home.

There was a video a couple of years ago on youtube showing these bikes at work, the idea seems to be that you're able to filter through all of the traffic that the broken down car has caused and then to be able to move it out of the way asap.

I would be more concerned about stopping than going. A pan must weight what 250kg?, your average car weights 1000-1500kg. Thats trying to stop Say 1750kg mainly stopping through a front bike tire Laughing

Not just the poor brakes, what about the clutch and drivetrain?

That amount of weight must cause long term problems.

I'm fairly sure a trike or a trailer will not increase your bikes weight by a factor of 7.

Edit, Goldwings weight 400kg so it is more like factor of 5 if it was pulling say a Mondeo.

Nothing new there.
I remember this link from My-MC.com in 2005 (ok, I had to search for exact url but I knew it was in there).

It has a link to Coming Through - Retriever.

Damn, you would think with all the work that went into the hydraulic deployment that they might of thought of fitting hydraulic brakes to the trailer. Wink

The Retriever is designed to minimize forces to transfer from the towing unit to the motorcycle. This is managed in an efficient and sophisticated manner by the patented brake and steering system. The systems works together to eliminate the transfer of forces, as the rider turns or brake the systems ensures that the steering and/or brake forces are, in largest possible extent, managed by the towing unit. The systems are operated fully with hydraulic and mechanical components and are independent of the motorcycle. This will result in the Retriever to be ridden like any other motorcycle even though it is actually recovering a car.

I guess the sarcasm didn't work Laughing You can see the brakes in one of the photos.

I would be interested in any work, if any, they did to the clutch though.
