My NC30, now the weather has picked up, is throwing out plenty of black deposits out the exhaust. The idle is set to what its supposed to be, and recently its started to backfire when running from high revs to low.

I recently had a whole new [but used Laughing] exhaust system put on. The collector pipe had been shortened but the end can fits on fine.

Any ideas? Something to do with a shorter pipe? Needs the carbs balanced?

Thanks in advance.

When was the last time you changed the air filter?

Also the V4s are very sensitive to changes in the exhaust system, if the last system was straight-through (i..e no baffles) then they might have upped the main jet to suit.

A carb balance won't really help, you only need to balance them if the engine RPM wanders around at idle, it has hesitant acceleration or hangs-up when you come off the throttle.
