I've got a forcefield back protector (ok, it's the halvarssons version) and it's not that comfy to wear a backpack too.

What is the general thought on wearing a backpack on top of a back protector? Is it likely to cause more harm having the protector underneath considering they are designed to take impact? would I be better off with just the backpack ? (it's got the 'kidney belt' straps as well as shoulder straps.

Thanks.

I doubt the backpack will make all that much difference, taking some of the impact is only part of the job of the back protector with the majority of its use being a barrier to stop your back flexing and contorting into shapes that will do it harm.

It wont be as good with a fully laden pack on your back if you come off but thats the downside of wearing a pack full stop.

If you are that worried get a tailpack and carry stuff in that instead.

cheers

For the last 4 and a half years I've ridden with both.

Never had a problem.

I don't go anywhere without my back pack.

And I don't ever ride without a back protector. (And yeahh I have landed on my back after crashing and its a reassuring thud, when you hear it slap the tarmac).
