Now, no one can really say these a tacky or tasteless mod.
(Well, plastic fantastic fans usually love them at least)

I'm thinking about them, and how legal they are. The ones that are virtually non see through surely aren't 100% legit?

How would you make some? I know Luke VFR stuck some on his R6 before it was sold that were semi transparent but where's the limit?

Also; if you wanted some on a bike that nobody made them for; how does one achieve this? Can you simply mould some colour tinted perspex into the required shape and velcro them on?

Hardly the same is it? Is it breaking the law to have the covers?

well, I have green ones on my kwacker and got pulled on the motorway by some Kent jobsworth traffic cop who told me they were illegal and my number plate was too small, that was pretty much it too, pulled me right across 2 lanes and told me off for stopping too quickly for him - fucking pleb!

In any case I have had mine on for about 3 years and thats the first I have ever been told they are illegal - to be honest with the lights off they glow as much in daylight anyway so I think he was just being a cock.

cheers

leigh Very Happy

Probably wrong but I thought that they were only illegal if you actually turned your light on? Its an MOT fail of the headlight isn't white or yellow.

As far as I know they are illegal, enough police will stop you for them and yes they are tacky and tasteless Wink.

The only thing on a headlamp should be a layer of flies.

I've seen race reps with light covers on and thought they looked pretty wicked. Is this generally like a chav biker 'tacky mod' thing that no-one will approve of and all will laugh at?

Meh, fuck 'um. Laughing

If you are using the Light Cover, As a Cover. Then I cant see how its illegal. It's just like having no headlight. Which is not a requirement so long as its not dark.

If you are using a coloured lense to change the colour of your headlight beam. Then it is illegal yes.
And if you use a Blue lense, You can get shafted for impersonating a police officer.

I have a black tinted headlight cover on my TLR. I ride at night with it on and the headlight is still plenty bright enough.

I have two on my bike, simply because i think they look cool, and as a bonus they protect the headlights.

I ride with them on and have never been stopped, maybe im just lucky.

And TBH i dont really care what anyone else thinks, a few people have said they look crap, what, im supposed to take them off because you dont like them...? Laughing

Coloured ones are wrong, but black covers look good on certain bikes (see Daytona above).. I would avoid having green, yellow, pink, red or blue, I don't care if the bike is that colour, coloured headlights look wrong.. some people have no taste in their bike decorating.. maybe they are colourblind Rolling Eyes
Also, any kind of colour put on the headlights will surely detract from the overall power of the light? Especially black, so maybe only put those on if you're just riding in well lit areas.. or stick to daytime... OR just leave your headlights alone.

I can't see anything particularly illegal. Headlights are allowed to be white or yellow. There's no requirement for how bright it has to be...

I think they can look really smart on race reps, where they're used to make it look like full race fairings.

Wife had some for hers. Looked quite cool but she always put full beam on when fitted and they were very visible to other road users. Naturally took them off at night!

As above I have the black ones on my kwack, allows me to ride with full beam on, as only one side lights up on normal beam I prefer the balanced look Wink

Well, I think the ultimate way to make mine look unique now is to get one. I wasn't aware of another NS in Yorkshire but I've seen a chav today riding one round and it was in much better condition than mine is. That said, mine is healing fast and will be almost factory fresh spec(ish) so it won't be too chavtastic. This can't be a 'bad' idea.. but 30quid? For a bit of plastic?

And yeah, with race reps I was thinking like:

Whoever posted that green kwak with white covers, it does in fairness look a bit not-so-funky when they aren't matching the scheme of the bike. Wink
