Thundercat airbox restriction collar? YZR600R

Anyone know if the little collar that sits in the airbox where the inlet pipes goes to the airbox can be safely removed? It will physically come out no problem .. if you look at the description is actually called a 'silencer' .... but it must act as a restrictor too ...


Is it a well known trick to simply remove them and give a few more neds? Or do they need to be there to make the bike run properly (thinking airbox harmonics or summin).

Its hard to make out in the diagram exactly how it fits in, but if you have taken one apart before, you will know exactly what I am on about ... its Part #9
